Re: CV Failure

Yes, I've heard that myself. Talking to some other Z owners from NZ and AU, that seems to be the way you fellows " Do it in a Datsun ". I think it's just a Regional thing. If I convert my 280Z I'll use the Nissan Tripod style as well. Right now the old faithfull U-joints are working just f...

Re: CV Failure

Anyone else getting a redirect to VIG LINK shopping channel when you clicked on the link in my post from July,8th?

Same link as below. Should take you direct to ECS Tuning.

VIG Link Adware

Rob. Noticed that a link to ECS Tuning that I posted brings up a shopping affiliate instead. VIG LINK. This is normally a Site add-on, I think it's been enabled on " The 510 Realm ) end. I'll include the link below. It's to ECS Tuning. If pasted directly into my Browser the URL goes to the corr...

Re: CV Failure

Why are grease fittings on cvs a good thing? Read an FSM... there's a specified amount of grease that should be in the boots and when they don't leak if sealed properly. Case in point as mentioned by chickenman. I would not be regreasing CVs even if they had zerks. Too much grease and it'll squeeze...

Re: CV Failure

Pretty sure the VW/Audi gaskets will work as well. There are various sizes available from VW/Audi and other vendors Gasket for 90mm CV : https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-1.8T/Drivetrain/Axles/CV/2 There is also a smaller one for the driveshaft, but I can't seem to find the mm size at the...

Re: CV Failure

Typical Audi/VW CV gasket: about $5 each. There are several different sizes. . I've never seen an OEM car manufacturer NOT use gaskets or O-Rings to seal the grease in between the CV and the mating hub.

Re: CV Failure

Personally, If I was going to get some CV's for my Datsun 280Z, I would go to an Auto Wrecker  and pull the axles from an later model Audi or VW.  Pick A  Part in Chilliwack has CV axles for $34.95 CDN each. And they have a few Audi's in the yard right now. ( Ton's of VW's and Passats ). I was out t...

Re: CV Failure

255,000 KM on the ORIGINAL CV's on my Audi A4 AWD. Prop shaft has CV's as well. Oh... and they all have gaskets between the CV and the mating flange. FWIW. If you split a boot on OEM Audi/VW's the honest shops tell you to just clean the original CV's and replace boot and grease. Don't buy an afterma...

Milage for Duffy lake run

Hey guys. Some of the local Z Club members are planning a cruise from North Vancouver to Squamish. Then Pemberton to Lillooet and back to North Vancouver. Anyone know the approximate mileage of this trip?

Re: 2.3L of fun

That's just not acceptable. Poor machining and tolerances. Do CV's and axles from a gazillion stock VW/Audi's Toyota' Honda's etc clunk and bang? No. Neither do proper CV's and axles in Race Cars. Loose tolerance in axles and CV's create shock loads which break parts. You don't have to be an enginee...

Re: 2.3L of fun

I was communicating with some Z owners in Australia and NZ, and they use nothing but the 280ZX and 300ZX( Z31 ) CV's and axles. Strong, silent and zero issues. Don't know if you can make them fit 510's but it may be an idea. My cat is going insane right now!! Running around the house at 100 MPH jump...

Re: 2.3L of fun

Reminds me when I first started running WestWood in my Datsun 1200. Ran Super-Vee slicks in the dry. Couldn't afford rain tires. So I ran 155 x 12 Vredesteins in the Wet. Learned a lot of car control back then!!
