Re: What did you do on your 510 today?
I've had my battery mounted in my trunk for about 25 years, but since I began using Optima battery's 10 years ago, It's been cranking slow when hot, and I just lived with it. I read an article in one of those Ratrod Magazines about battery's and cables, and they had a photo of exactly my battery set...

Re: lets talk seam sealers
I use the sealer that Mercedes Benz Dealers sell in their parts department. It comes in a cartridge, and is called: Sikaflex 221i It's white, has really good adhesion, and is quite tough, like rubber when dry, and can be painted the next day. It can be smoothed out here and there with a spray of sol...

Re: bracing and seam sealers
Block sanding a panel with a firm sealer pad on the braces usually causes problems with your ability to block the panel straight. Things go much better with no sealer, and then inject it back in when you are happy with the blocking result, or after it's painted. An area where there is sealer at a br...

I have the ones Troy Ermish sells- very nice, and had Meridian auto in Calif. rebuild the steering box. Drives really nice now. Very stable at high speeds.

Re: Tuning problems - L18/L16SSS hybrid with SU's
I've been working on the same/similar problem with my 510 for 3 weeks.- L20b with a DGEV weber.- It turned out to be that the timing somehow became too advanced by 5 degrees. I like it to be at 18 degrees at 800 rpm idle, and I have the mechanical advance more limited by shortened slots. I have a SS...

Re: Tech Question Re: 510 Drive Shaft
1. Measure the length of the stock Transmission.
2. Measure the length of the 5 speed.
The difference in length is the amount you have to shorten your driveshaft.

Re: Wheel opinion, Ronal R9
That's my 510 with the Ronals in the above photo's. The Ronals on my car were 15X7" 23mm offset, Mercedes Benz bolt pattern, no clearance problems at all. I had Pirelli P700 195/50's on the front, and 205/50's on the rear. I also have an R9 16x8" offset 11mm, that I was considering for the...

Re: WTB... Brake rotors, rear body panel
I called Rock Auto, and they said that all 510 brake Rotors are out of stock, and cannot be ordered. I asked if they exist somewhere, and he said "Only if someone ordered some when they were available, and they are still on a shelf somewhere." So, if it appears that Rock Auto can get somet...

Re: WTB... Brake rotors, rear body panel
Yes, it's the smaller panel below the upper larger one. It has a cut out for the tail pipe. I'll be spot welding/pinch welding it in as the factory did, so I don't want any holes where the welds will go.

Re: WTB... Brake rotors, rear body panel
Rock auto's customer service rep. sent me a link to a more user friendly version of their catalog, and they do have 4 choices/price levels of 510 Rotors.
Thank's for the above help.

Re: WTB... Brake rotors, rear body panel
FLAPS does not have 510 Rotors. It's hard to tell if Rock Auto has them- I sent them an email asking the question. All of the auto parts stores in my area show zero availability, and they tell me they can't even be ordered. And I'm guessing they all have a computer network that searches the same sou...

Re: aftermarket steering hub
I just looked at my original 1969 510 steering wheel (Off the car) and the cancel pins are at 12 and 6 oclock. '70 and newer may be different though. I'm looking for a nice aluminum hub because I have a Moto-Lita wheel intended for a type 1 XKE that I would like to use, and it is difficult to find a...

Re: Sound Deadener?
For the last 9-10 years, Mercedes Benz has been using a 1/4" thick foam pad with cardboard on both sides of it (1/4" Foam, sandwiched between 2 layers of thin cardboard) as a sound deadener on the roof panels of their sedans. It is as light as a feather, and is commonly sold in the USA as ...
