Re: 280zx rear control arms on a 510 crossmember

I seem to recall somebody saying that the track width with the 280zx arms is wider. By how much, I'm not sure. I think that a few people have done it successfully, albeit with a good amount of other modifications. I think the fairly well known car called the "Strutless Wonder" used 280zx trailing ar...

Re: Brake question

You do not want the rear to lock up if you go hard into the corner and try some trail braking at the same time, just not a good scenario. I remember my first autocross on slicks. The added traction lead to more weight transfer under braking. Trail braking hard through a decreasing radius turn...rea...

Re: Brake question

There should be a differential in temperature between the front and rear brakes. Because of the weight transfer under hard braking, the front brakes should be doing the majority of the work, and therefore will get much hotter than the rear brakes. If the braking force was split perfectly 50-50, the ...

Re: Brake question

I just browsed through this thread and I saw that bedding the pads was mentioned early on, but vetteguy22 never confirmed that the pads had been properly bedded in (unless I missed it). The importance of performing a proper bedding process when changing either pads or rotors is paramount to proper b...

Thanks Tedman! I'll be adding that to my to-do list for this season. I'll report back with results once I get a good chance to test.

Re: Sticky, wide, 13" and 14" tires - Toyo Proxes R888

One maybe unforeseen downside to running R-comps on the street is that the limits of the tires are so high, the cornering speeds achievable are maybe a little excessive for public roads. Even with 200 tread wear tires on my car, driving the car near its limits (aka "the fun zone") is way faster than...

RMS wrote:I search your thread and no mention of 280 struts. are you still running stock brakes? if so why not stock 280 brakes and 13s ?
The stock 280zx calipers are HEAVY. Going to an aluminum caliper can save a good amount of unsprung weight.

Re: Is there aftermarket calipers that use metric fasteners?

I personally don't mind using imperial fasteners. I have been using AN hardware exclusively for any imperial fastener on my car for a while. AN fasteners are available in a large number of lengths, and they have proper shoulder diameters and lengths to be used in suspension and chassis applications....

Re: Autocross Alignment Specs

Autocross using this setup. The surface sucked. The tires are all season. I'm not very good. I'm open to criticism. https://youtu.be/smhBX35d-O0 Don't really have any driving critiques, but I will suggest mounting your camera in a way that you can see what you are doing during the run. I mount mine...

Re: Autocross Alignment Specs

To reiterate what Jeff and Keith have said, TIRES! I personally run a similar setup to those guys, with the exception being I run a good deal more camber. I run 3.5* in the front and 2 in the rear. This results in even temperatures across the tire after a run. However, I run either Hoosier A7's or a...

Re: Rack And Pinion exploration

I have also thought about a tubular bar recently. The only drawback that I see is that because of where it would have to be located (under or just behind the core support, depending on what you decide) the arms end up being pretty long. Because of the long arms you end up having to run a pretty stou...

Re: Rack And Pinion exploration

Duke I thought of a way to get 13" wheels on your car. You can adjust your bump steer using the spherical bearing under your strut (where the old ball joint was) instead of spacing the out tie rod. The only worry is that it may need to be spaced the way you can't go. I tried to go back and look at ...

I'm glad to see that you kept track of this. As my car is pretty bare, I've often wondered what the actual weight penalty would be of adding some sound deadening.
