Re: Duke's'72 Carbed KA project

I'm about to dive into R&P conversion myself. Hoping to put a more serious Solo2 package together for next year and the steering is definitely my car's weakest link right now. Since you & I have similar setups (carbed, rear-sump KA), I'm hoping to do something similar to you. I plan to run ...

Re: 2017 SCCA RunOffs

Andy's suspension design has a genius solution to steering geometry. Pay close attention to the picture labelled "Andy and Steve". HAHA that is a super good idea! Also note that those vertical links can be swapped out to achieve a different steering ratio; you only have to maintain the le...

That picture is of a problem called "The Drawing of the Three". It's up on Donner Pass in Tahoe and goes at around V11. OK, I'm a dumb old cus, what the heck are you guys talking about? ;) Rock climbing pic from duke. Bouldering is climbing a route without a rope, usually only about 10-15...

Re: Duke's'72 Carbed KA project

I finally had a chance to get my car on a set of proper corner scales yesterday. I'm very pleased with the result. All it took to get the cross weights to 50/50 was two turns on the front right coilover. Also pleased at the weight with me out of the car. It would be cool to loose 50 lbs and get the ...

Re: 1972 1600SSS from New Zealand

Do you have a gas lens on that torch? If you do, you can extend that tungsten out far enough to get in the corners without bending the flange. I would second this. Another trick that I have seen but never done is to actually bend the tungsten to achieve the proper torch angle. This requires a large...

Re: Front Wheel Clearance?

Get in touch with 510T on Ratsun. He has some pictures of what I did on his car, but with the whole photobucket thing, they don't show up anymore. I bet he would repost them if you asked nicely.

Re: New from JAPAN

Welcome! Very cool swap. You have got me contemplating. Do you have any pictures of the underside of the car? I would like to see what you did for the oil pan and stuff. Do you know how much weight was added with this engine?

Re: Duke's'72 Carbed KA project

There was another local autocross last weekend, and with no new modifications on the car, I am basically just getting used to the new handling characteristics and really enjoying the feel of the new steering. After putting a few miles on the rack setup I can feel that is has begun to wear in a littl...

Re: Duke's'72 Carbed KA project

Work on the Datsun has slowed as Bonneville draws near. My dad and I are wrapping things up on the land speed car and are looking pretty good to be totally finished with this round of modifications with a little breathing room before Speedweek starts on Aug. 12th. We fired it for the first time a fe...

Re: CV Failure

In "How to Modify...", BRE had similar problems with U-joints, but they were being pushed to the extreme. Surprising CVs aren't working better. This comes back to my point. Many of us are running the CV's at a pretty extreme angle, which I think is the reason for grease escaping/failures/...

Shims? Like between the piston and the pads? I never ran any, and I don't know why the would be necessary.

Re: CV Failure

I have a set CV's on my car from The Driveshaft Shop. They are based on Porsche 930 CV's so very similar to the VW ones from other kits, just larger. They have been awesome (no play, fit well, etc) apart from one problem. I have had to replace at least 3 boots since I purchased them. I think the rea...
