Re: Autocross Alignment Specs

To reiterate what Jeff and Keith have said, TIRES! I personally run a similar setup to those guys, with the exception being I run a good deal more camber. I run 3.5* in the front and 2 in the rear. This results in even temperatures across the tire after a run. However, I run either Hoosier A7's or a...

Re: Rack And Pinion exploration

I have also thought about a tubular bar recently. The only drawback that I see is that because of where it would have to be located (under or just behind the core support, depending on what you decide) the arms end up being pretty long. Because of the long arms you end up having to run a pretty stou...

Re: Rack And Pinion exploration

Duke I thought of a way to get 13" wheels on your car. You can adjust your bump steer using the spherical bearing under your strut (where the old ball joint was) instead of spacing the out tie rod. The only worry is that it may need to be spaced the way you can't go. I tried to go back and loo...

I'm glad to see that you kept track of this. As my car is pretty bare, I've often wondered what the actual weight penalty would be of adding some sound deadening.

Re: Duke's'72 Carbed KA project

Thanks Duke, Another quick question - what did you use for steering shaft/UJoints off the Datsun column to the Escort rack? I can't get a clear image from your pictures. Specifically, were you able to use just a single U joint off the Datsun column and another one down at the rack? Was the angle wi...

Re: Remove front crossmember with out removing engine?

Yes, I've done this a few times for various reasons (oil pan mods, suspension mods, etc) and it's pretty easy to do. Just disconnect the control arms and drop it down.

As for the x-members, '68 and '69 had a different x-member, with higher LCA pivot points and no aforementioned lip.

This is true...but that is expensive! I don't spin my KA any faster than 7000 rpm. I have heard that there is a harmonic that sets in at about 7250 rpm that will absolutely destroy them.

Re: "Hey" my daily driven race car!

You guys have almost have me convinced to go to 4.44's for next year... My only hesitation is that my max speed in 2nd will be reduced by 10mph (from 65 currently to 55). I'm afraid that this might actually slow me down in some events, as I will have to be shifting to 3rd more often (with the 3.90 I...

Re: "Hey" my daily driven race car!

I'm enjoying the discussion. One thing I have wondered about with autocross, is how best to really quantify the effectiveness of changes. Yes, a change in tire pressure, alignment, etc may make the car feel better, but did it really make the car faster? With a new course every event this is very dif...

Doesn't this apply to about 75% of the cars at SEMA? It is cool that our little cars are getting more popular. More aftermarket support is never a bad thing!

Re: Duke's'72 Carbed KA project

I'm about to dive into R&P conversion myself. Hoping to put a more serious Solo2 package together for next year and the steering is definitely my car's weakest link right now. Since you & I have similar setups (carbed, rear-sump KA), I'm hoping to do something similar to you. I plan to run ...

Re: 2017 SCCA RunOffs

Andy's suspension design has a genius solution to steering geometry. Pay close attention to the picture labelled "Andy and Steve". HAHA that is a super good idea! Also note that those vertical links can be swapped out to achieve a different steering ratio; you only have to maintain the le...
