It's all about the risk. Pay less get less. You can't expect them to cover you totally like the $1,200 premium.

Get the best deal you can an drive and pray that you NEVER ever have to need it.

Re: Starter not engaging prperly

If you have ever had a flywheel off and put one on you will know that the flywheel actually slips over the end of the crankshaft and will sit in place even without the bolts. The auto spacer would prevent that and you would have to hold the flywheel in place while fumbling with the bolts. This would...

Re: Driveshaft length

Talk to a shop that specializes in drive shaft shortening not just a garage. I don't know but would guess from the center line of the rear U joint to the outer case of the transmission. They will know how much to move the front U joint back so you have a proper amount of spline engagement yet have s...

Re: L18 questions

I don't understand why anyone would go to the trouble to build an engine and then nickle and dime the oil filter. Fram are poor quality materials and construction. For the same price you can get better.

Re: Starter not engaging prperly

You have an engine plate so not that. Two starters doing the same thing. Assuming that the starter is ok the only other thing is the battery or the connections. Did you clean the battery posts and both cable ends? The ground wire on the head is it clean and tight. All have to make good electrical co...

Re: L18 questions

Looks about right. L18s have dished pistons. Measure the bore... should be 85mm. Make sure you don't run a fram filter.

Re: Wanted Front Brake Caliper Bracket for 79-83 280zx

It's part of the strut tube and spindle. To get 280zx brakes you swap the entire zx strut.

Early 610 and 710 were the same I think, with the angled pads?

Re: Another transmission ID.

Only the '79 620 got this 'wide ratio' gear set. The '77-'78 got the 'mid ratio'. The reason was the '79 standards dropped from 4.357 down to 4.11 differential. This would be somewhat difficult to pull away from a stop fully loaded so a lower first gear was needed. Out on the highway the 4.11s would...

Re: Another transmission ID.

OK (bear with me) one last thing. Place in 5th gear and confirm that the out put turns fewer times than the input. If 20 input gives about 17-18 output then I guess it's a '79 620 5 speed.

1st... 3.592
2nd... 2.246
3rd... 1.415
4th... 1.000
5th... 0.812

Re: Another transmission ID.

That would be about half way through the first year the 71B 5 speed was offered as an option in the 280z and 620. Assuming the standard transmission build dates are ID'd the same as the automatics. Are you sure about the number of turns?.... it should be a mid range gear set. IDing a transmission is...

Re: Another transmission ID.

Well my information says only the '79 620 truck used a wide ratio 5 speed option.

Are there any numbers/letters stamped along the top leading edge??? Looks like it in this picture...
