Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy

It should be connected between the coil negative and the EI. Or take the wire off the coil negative terminal and insert the tach between to complete the circuit.

Re: upgrade alternator

All Datsun/Nissans switched to internal regulator for the '78 model year. They also switched to EI ignition. Ford Quest and Mercury Villager alternators (yes some Fords used Nissan VG engines) 93-98 - v40 = VG30E = 1 sliding door made in TN = Mitsubishi 110 amp 99-03 - v41 = VG33E = 2 sliding doors ...

Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy

Wattage is just a measure of how well the resistor dissipates heat that is produced. A 1,000 ohm 5 watt resistor is identical to a 1,000 ohm .5 watt resistor as far as resistance. Points and EI are essentially the same... an on and off 12v signal. I had an inductive Datsun tach from a 1200 in my L20...

Re: Wtb 7/8 280zx bmc

All 240/260 280z were front disc and rear drum brakes. All 280zx were front and rear disc brakes. All zx front disc and calipers were the same. Even the Turbo model. Rear zx disc brake caliper style were changed in Aug '81 All zx masters were 15/16" but the master cylinder mounting bolts were c...

Re: Wtb 7/8 280zx bmc

I have a ZX 15/16" in my 710 and the guy at the local NAPA found a rebuild kit in a box on a back shelf. He said he had worked there for 20 years and had never seen that style of artwork on the box and it was probably from the mid '80s. It was the only one I could find anywhere. I suspect the '...

Re: Nissan/Datsun FS5W60A Transmission

There were two 60 series 5 speeds the FS5W60L and the FS5W60A. The L was a dogleg pattern and only available from August through November of the '80 model year. The A was a regular shift pattern used from December on.... 32604-H9700 is the A baulk or synchro ring number for all 5. The SW5W60L are al...

Re: Brakes

Totally agree. Hey it's been mentioned to me that new brake shoes are no longer staggered in their lining placement which sort of negates the servo action of the leading/trailing shoes. Have you heard of this? A member on line mentioned that the linings are now centered so there is no proper placeme...

Re: Brakes

Seems ... scary. But that's by today's standards. Four X nine inch drums is a lot of stopping power for 2,200 pounds!!! My old Plymouth Fury had 10 inch drums and god knows what it weighed probably another ton.

Re: Brakes

I had a 7? maybe 8 year old '68 back in the day. I knew how to abuse them but little about what made them work. I don't remember even having a wheel off it. No idea if disc or not. What manual I have (Haynes) shows front drum and disc as a function of date of manufacture. Haynes are printed in the U...
