Re: Brakes questions

You don't need a bias adjuster. Or simply put, once adjusted for maximum rear braking to complement the fronts, you don't need to adjust it again. I suppose if you filled the trunk with groceries you could turn the backs up slightly because of the added traction or reduce it as the gas tank empties,...

I wasn't aware that automatics were quieter than standards.

Re: Difference between 610 and 510 rear sub frame

I think the 610 has very slightly wider spacing for the control arms.

Re: WTB 5 speed transmission

The '79 zx is an excellent choice. It's a mid ratio so not too different from your 4 speed and the over drive not much different from the S10 200sx. I have a '79 in my 710 and love it. [quote name="datzenmike" post="1478313" timestamp="1491622108"] Well, if you have a w...

Re: WTB 5 speed transmission

A few things... A five speed will not make you car go faster. Some five speeds will actually make your car take offs sluggish. If you drive mainly in town a five speed rarely gets used and is mostly along for the drive. Hands down the most compatible swap is an S10 five speed. It has identical inter...

Re: Distributor Choice with MSD 6AL

If the cap, rotor and wires are good quality and in good shape the spark has no choice but to jump the spark plug gap. The L20B came with points and EI and both had the slightly larger diameter cap. Get an EI distributor and forget the MSG.

Re: Electric issues - alot of things not working

Headlights, brake lights, horn, interior lamp, 4 way flashers are all items that will work without the ignition on. Headlamps usually have their own fusible link and is powered at all times through the headlamp switch. The others probably are on a section of the fuse box connected to it's own fusibl...

Re: alternative rear springs

Alternative, how? Stiffer? What spring rate do you want on the back? What do you have in the fronts? The stock 510 fronts are about 89 lb/in so I assume the rears are close to that. Because of rear control arm geometry, to get 90 lb/in at the wheel, you need a 350 lb/in coil spring. Rear coil spring...

Re: alternative rear springs

If a coil over spring (link in original post) it's not the same as the stock 510 spring. It will be too small diameter. A 450 pound spring on a shock mount is insanely stiff. 300 is too stiff. If going in the stock spring location, because of a mechanical leverage advantage, a 450 lb/in spring will ...

Re: wtb z22 crankshaft

Byron the Z20 cranks are the same as the L20B cranks. Same U60 casting exactly. I have or did have (I don't remember getting rid of them) two Z20 cranks. I even have the Z20 block somewhere.

Re: wtb z22 crankshaft

Can anyone confirm that the Z22 crank from a 200sx is fully counter weighted, unlike the Z22 crank from a 720 truck???? If true that would be worth having. The part numbers are different.

Re: A87 Head Chamber Volume

Mine was repeatable, did Z20, Z22 and Z24 heads twice, all were 57cc. The dose syringe is graduated in 1/10ths and available at WallMart or any pharmacy for a buck or two. The best of all, this low tech total cost was zero.

Re: A87 Head Chamber Volume

Raise the valves up off their seats and rub a little grease on the faces to help seal them. No way its 55cc. Only thing I can see is you are allowing the surface tension to bulge up and above the head surface. I used a plastic CD case with a small hole near the edge. Run a little grease around the c...

Re: 5 Speed swap parts list?

2) The transmission didn't come with a shifter, will this one work or do I need the kind with the big plastic inserts? Transmission_04.JPG 3) I am going to be running a GPS speedo. Does anyone have any ideas for a cap to cover the speed hole or do I just attach an old speedo cable and cut the cable...
