Re: Wanted: L20b and a dogleg

The 'dogleg' was only available in the first gen '77-'79 S10 (200sx) and as an option in the A10. Not a lot around and those that are will be well used. An easier 5 speed to find would be the FS5W71B found in the 280z, 280zx (non turbo), 810 and Maxima 620 and first year 720 2wd trucks. Lots of thos...

Re: Hello

The Blue capped line would go to the air filter snorkel and temp sensor to regulate inlet air temperature by mixing heated air from the hot exhaust manifold with outside air. It prevents carb icing on cold damp days and keeps the engine in a controlled ait temperature environment. It's like driving ...

Re: H190 end play help,

The 520/521/620 and 720 had the thrust block and all had 29 spline* side gears. Roadster, 510, 810. Maxima, S110 200sx* and first year '84 S12 200sx* all used an H-190 but did not have this thrust block. All in this list has 23 spline except those marked * which were 29. I can only assume the two si...

It's not 'messed up', no one will be able to see the marks when it's together.

Re: H190 end play help,

Yes shims are used between the axle tube and the backing plate. I think that thrust blocks are in later 80s? H-190s (could be wrong) I can check when I get home

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

This is actually a 720 5 speed. I took this picture in direct sunlight probably 15 years ago and the camera did some tonal color change? http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/Tranny/transNAPSZ5spdbroken.jpg The bottom shift rod is the 5trh/rev. there's nothing on it all the way to the f...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

The rod simply moves forward and back about 1/2" each way. A scratch won't affect how it works, only the fork does anything.

Re: Improving crash safety without a cage

It may come down to simple proactive avoidance of an accident. Learn to turn your headlights on... and off when you are done. ALL new cars have daytime lighting and pretty much all the older ones too. Idiot drivers today rely on a quick glance... headlights (means a car) don't see anything?... (prob...

Re: Carbed KA24E

Well it will be difficult to run with the distributor sticking into the heater core. Until this is sorted, the custom oil pan and engine mounts don't matter. Find a D21 Hardbody KA '86-97? KA24E RWD with it's 5 speed. Has a front mount CAS that you can remove (needs EFI to work anyway, and you don't...

The rear facing distributor (CAS actually) won't clear the firewall.

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

The '85 and on cover has a 62mm counter bearing vs, the earlier 56mm. As you are keeping the 56mm bearing you need the 56mm shims. The shims stack up on the front of the bearing and are squeezed between it and the cover plate. The more the bearing sticks out from the case, the thinner the shim(s) ne...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

The ears are also tall on the '80 720 box. I have a '79 zx 5 speed in my 710.(mid ratio that year) I put an '85 720 diesel tail on to get the taller hole for the shift pin fulcrum point. Shortens the shift length. That 5 speed still has the pin hole in the old or lower position but it could be drill...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

Well it's an L series 5 speed built after '79 and the mount looks like from a zx. If so, this is a close ratio with a 3.062 first and depending on year either 0.773 or 0.745 over drive NMCA... Nissan Motor Car or Company Austraila. Just remove the bolts and tap the pivot ball, pops right off. http:/...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

Any cover '84 and older from an F4W71B or FS5W71B will work. Most are aluminum but I did have a steel one once. Do NOT hammer on the part grooved with the release bearing. It will break. Instead reach in the clutch arm hole with a socket extension and hammer on the clutch arm pivot bolt to loosen th...

FS5W63A The W is for Warner style syncros. Pro.... has exact same 1,2,3 gears as stock 4 speed but a nice reasonable 15% overdrive. Same length as stock 4 speed. Adequate strength. Ideal reverse above first for rocking car stuck in a snow drift. Con.... trans mount needs modifications. Trans not tha...
