Re: A87 Head Chamber Volume

Mine was repeatable, did Z20, Z22 and Z24 heads twice, all were 57cc. The dose syringe is graduated in 1/10ths and available at WallMart or any pharmacy for a buck or two. The best of all, this low tech total cost was zero.

Re: A87 Head Chamber Volume

Raise the valves up off their seats and rub a little grease on the faces to help seal them. No way its 55cc. Only thing I can see is you are allowing the surface tension to bulge up and above the head surface. I used a plastic CD case with a small hole near the edge. Run a little grease around the c...

Re: 5 Speed swap parts list?

2) The transmission didn't come with a shifter, will this one work or do I need the kind with the big plastic inserts? Transmission_04.JPG 3) I am going to be running a GPS speedo. Does anyone have any ideas for a cap to cover the speed hole or do I just attach an old speedo cable and cut the cable...

Re: 5 Speed swap parts list?

http://www.the510realm.com/download/file.php?id=41733 Definitely an '80 or newer L series FS5W71B 5 speed. If an '80 zx it will have a 3.062 first gear and a 0.773 5th. If an '81-'83 it will have a 3.062 first and a 0.745 5th. Place in first and turn input 20 times while counting to output. 6.5 tur...

Re: Any hope for this head?

Use diesel fuel water's too thick. Let sit over night. If the valve seal is good they won't leak down. Without the valve spring on, and using a dial gauge, shift the valve stem end back and forth at right angles to the cam. Valve guide wear should not be above 0.008" Replace the valve guide sea...

Re: Gas, temp & blinkers

Light switch works only the lighting. Turn ignition switch to ON. Does your low oil pressure light in the dash light up? Probably the answer is no. Same fuse powers the turn signals and the two gauges. Fuse may look OK but is blown or not making good contact. Hold a quarter across the fuse contacts....

Re: 510 280zx Front Brake Setup....New 7/8" Master....No Fluid Getting to Calipers

Even if the caliper pistons were seized, fluid would still come out the bleeders. As both calipers/flex lines or both front individual lines are unlikely to cause an identical problem at the same time, problem is towards the master. Unscrew the front brake line from the master (that's the one toward...

Re: Any hope for this head?

Three mm's removed, reduces the combustion chamber by 17cc ... and that's on a open chamber head. A closed will be about 1/3 more. Compression is already 11.

Time to put the W58 head on.

Re: Any hope for this head?

First thing... you need to shove that slack side guide over as far to the right as you can to remove as much slack as possible. Open or oval the holes to get as much movement to the right as you can before tightening it. The head may have already been resurfaced before.... or they are just idiots. O...

Re: Are A10's anything cool?

The hatchback was not necessarily my favorite it was the model that had a 5 speed option and also looks closest to the original KP510 coupe. I definitely like the 2 over the 4 door though unless it's a goon.

http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/1977_Datsun_510_by_datsunfreak-640x480.jpg I love the round eye A10! The 2 door hatchback even had a dogleg 5 speed option. Your shifter is identical to the original PL510 and is aptly called 'monkey motion' when the rubber bushin...

Re: Buying an engine tomorrow!!!

The transmission ratios are identical to the 510 wagon. I would call them a wide ratio and the sedan a mid ratio gear set. 3.657 for the 521 and wagon and 3.382 for the sedan first gears (all 4ths are the same). This will give a little more snap off the line but you will be shifting before you get t...

Re: Wanted: L20b and a dogleg

Assumed design limits? I can only comment on the 71B 4 and 5 speeds. My current 5 speed in my 710 (for about 4 years) was the replacement for my 620 truck transmission for at least 10 years and was originally found by accident in a scrap metal yard in a crushed vehicle sometime in the mid 90s. I tho...

Re: Wanted: L20b and a dogleg

The 'dogleg' was only available in the first gen '77-'79 S10 (200sx) and as an option in the A10. Not a lot around and those that are will be well used. An easier 5 speed to find would be the FS5W71B found in the 280z, 280zx (non turbo), 810 and Maxima 620 and first year 720 2wd trucks. Lots of thos...
