Thanks, would these guys work? Any coils need to be lopped off?
They all say "heavy duty". Do I care?

Re: rear crossmember removal questions
So we got the diff back in and I now want to try swapping the rear springs for the Dodge D50 parts suggested. Any specific year or engine package I should specify in looking for springs?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: What did you do on your 510 today?
Some of your 510s and the work you guys do is amazing!
Today I stopped a huge gear lube leak and got the lady's 510 ambulatory again.
Edit: I see I got the diff mount nuts on the wrong studs. One last crawl.

metal Subaru diff cover gasket on a Datsun R160?
We ordered an "OEM" diff cover gasket for the stock R160 in my wife's 2-door and it turned out to be a Subaru OEM metal gasket. Are these OK to use in a stock Datsun diff or should we get the paper version? We have the diff out and plan to change the gasket and both axle stub seals (if we ...

Re: rear crossmember removal questions
No, the front struts have some sort of insert in them. KYB I think, from back in the 90s. They still make such things?
In our basement stash I found a pair of rear Konis that seem to be usable, but it sounds like the Red Ryders might be better.

Re: rear crossmember removal questions
Sadly the shocks are not Koni, but "Red Ryder". The are retained at the bottom by bolts, not nuts, I think someone asked.
What would be good shocks and struts to go with the springs mentioned above?
Thanks to everyone for the input!

Re: rear crossmember removal questions
Wow great info here. Thanks to Keith and @RMS. Swapping springs is super easy compared to dropping the crossmember! Shocks are um, red. And old. Once we get it running and not puking lube we planned to look at the suspension at both ends. We'll get the diff sealed up and back in and then check out t...

Re: rear crossmember removal questions
See if this helps:
What happens when the crossmember bushings deteriorate? Cutting the springs is a lot simpler than all that work!
Thanks,
Fred

Re: rear crossmember removal questions
Hi,
Springs are stock afaik. We bought the car in the mid-80s when it was just a used car some old guy had. He wasn't an enthusiast. It doesn't sit high in the rear but the camber has always been this way, as you say positive camber.

rear crossmember removal questions
I searched I promise! We pulled the rear drive out of my wife's 72 2-door to re-seal and hopefully stop the leaking. While we were under there I noticed the rear crossmember bushings seem to be collapsed a bit, and the entire crossmember drooped towards the rear when we removed the "mustache&qu...

Re: Throwout bearing question
Yes, I'm more familiar with the left ones. The L16/18s used the right. The L20B and up used the left. Still say go for quality for hard to get at parts. NAPA, O'rielies, Rock Auto, Nissan, Lordco, Hartman, Advance, Bumper to Bumper, someone will get you the right one. O'Reily's is the source of the...

Re: Throwout bearing question
Thanks guys. No one around here seems to be able to get anything but Chinese/Taiwanese bearings (and the one that came out was a NTN with no country of origin).
I'll call around further and hit Ebay.

Throwout bearing question
Dogleg 5-speed, L16. The new throwout bearing (no-name China) looks a bit different thank the old one, and appears it will ride a little further out from the center of the pressure plate based on wear marks: Old bearing in my hand, new in the bell housing: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-cVxx3gm...
