Re: What motor and trans in my 1960 Austin Healey Sprite?

The engine appears to have an aluminum head, so that would make it a 1967-1970 SPL311 Roadster engine.

The R16 had a matching 4-speed transmission.

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Battery I wanted to get the battery out of the engine compartment, but did not want it surfaced mounted in the trunk. We have had really good luck with Odyssey batteries, so I designed a simple battery box to drop down into the trunk. This box needed to be a compromise, I did not want it too deep w...

Re: So, You Want an SR20DE(T) Engine, Everything You Need to Know

You are more than welcome-- I would think that a L20B 4-speed is going to have a similar weight to a SR20DE/5-speed. There are quite a few guys who have done SR swaps into 620 pickups, but one of the issues is clearance with the idler to the alternator. It turns out our alternator relocation kit is ...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Intercooler Plumbing (AGAIN) After staring at this engine compartment for years, I was just not happy with a few aspects the intercooler and intake plumbing. My partner in crime Eric Straw had also convinced me to ditch the stock MAF and run a Haltech standalone EFI system which meant that we would...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Details That Eat Up the Hours In a project like this, it is the small details that eat up the hours it seems. For packaging purposes, the turbo compressor housing was re-clocked to make the "hot pipe" tube flow nicely to the front intercooler. This meant that the original bracket holding ...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Making it Stop, and suspension stuff too If we are going to go fast, then we better be able to stop this beast quickly as well. Mario from TSR builds a beautiful Brembo based brake kit for the front and rear of the 510, and I added this to the list for the front and rear of the car: The front kit i...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Making it Steer-- Part II Now that the steering rack turned with the steering wheel, it was time to work on the power assist portion of the rack install. SR20DET engines come from the factory with a power steering pump (and assorted brackets, etc.) and I have a pile of them here from the many SR sw...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Making it Steer With the engine/transmission in place, it was now time to build the steering linkage from the firewall to the steering rack. The guys at James Boswell have a pretty good installation guide http://www.jbcoachwerks.com/installation-guide , but I made a few modifications to that to wor...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

Transmission Crossmember This was actually done before the new crossmember-- I wanted to lock the engine/trans in their original location, but also wanted to build a new crossmember so that it would have better exhaust clearance for the 3" exhaust. The transmission is a new S15 SR20DET 6-speed...

Re: Spriso's SR20DET Bluebird Coupe Project

This project. On again, off again. Damn it. We build a lot of cars. Mostly Datsun roadsters, but other fun stuff too... but Brian's recent SR20DE swap into his 510 inspired me to get this thing back on the road once and for all (it is such a hoot to drive). I have a significant birthday coming up in...

I'm liking this concept a lot Matt-- keep up the good work-- I have an S14 engine that might need to have one!

Re: Brian's S15 SR20DE Swap - Spriso Motorsports

We have run into idle issues on SRs when the hard line ports under the intake plenum were not capped:

You might want to check that and see if they are open to atmosphere.
