Re: Build 2 motors? L18 & (L) z20e
What's the pin height on both pistons? You will want about 38.2mm for the L18 and 31.75mm for the Z20E engine. Taller than these and the piston will hit the under side of the head. A Z20 block with 87mm flattops and a closed chamber head will produce an 11:1 compression. A bit much for a 'non track...

Build 2 motors? L18 & (L) z20e
Ok, datzenmike has me thinking. I have my z20e motor on the way, which has the desirable 6in rods. Now im thinking of doing 2 motor builds now. Build my current L18 and use the forged 87mm pistons I have. And Do the z20e with a a87 peanut head and some 87 or 88 mm flat top pistons. So my question is...

I was planning on it but and particular reason? Is my math wrong?datzenmike wrote: ↑19 Feb 2021 18:51 37mm/2 squared X pi X 86 X 4 = 2043.932cc yup.
Hang onto those Z20 rods.

Re: New question; L22s block and a87 peanut head?
Z20 oil pan won't work. Z series engines are tilted to the left side of vertical about 8 degrees. L series engines are tilted 12 degrees to the right of vertical, so a difference of 18 degrees. A Z oil pan on an L engine would see the right bottom side the lowest point on the car. https://i.imgur.c...

Re: L22s block and a87 peanut head?
Well, I bought a z20e out of 80 200sx. $300 for shipping wasnt to nice but what can you do when local isnt an option. I ended up with some arias 87mm pistons with a 38mm pin height. Just purchased some z22 145.9mm rods. I still might buy the 88.5mm pistons so I can have a 2.1L vs 2045cc but we will ...

Re: Wtb L20b connecting rods
I get 2045cc but the 2.1L was calculated when I was going to use the 88.5mm pistons.datzenmike wrote: ↑18 Feb 2021 21:23 The 2.1 uses the Z20E 6" rods.
The Z20E is the same block and crank as the L20B. Using L20B rods and 38mm pin height and 37mm bore is only 2020cc

Re: Wtb L20b connecting rods
'81-'82 Datsun 720 Z22 engine connecting rods are the same. 145.9mm center to center. If building a stroker LZ22/LZ23 and have the Z22 engine use those rods. Thanks Mike, Im doing a 2.1L build. Z20e (1980 200sx) 87mm arias pistons with a 38mm pin height (instead of the 88.5mm ones I was looking at)...

Re: L22s block and a87 peanut head?
Generally a long rod allows the piston to remain near TDC slightly longer than a shorter rod. The longer time it is there, the more time the expanding gasses have to push and impart motion to it. Important at high RPMs. All other things equal a longer rod has less side loading on the piston as it a...

Re: L22s block and a87 peanut head?
So with a l18 is the long rod ratio of 1.71 vs 1.67 does that really make that much of a difference? Is a long rod worth it over the factory if bore is the same.
I can get the 88.5mm piston in either the l16 rods length pin height of 35.5mm or in the factory l18 rod length of 38mm.
