Re: Another 72 510

This past week seems like every day after work had me using paint stripper to remove the last of the paint in the engine compartment. Lots of contours in this area, makes it challenging and time consuming to remove the old finish. Got it sealed up with epoxy primer. https://i.imgur.com/qwav0op.jpg h...

Re: Nissan Bluebird Coupe (JCCA Race Car)

KiKi look about half way down on page 4 of my build and you will see the process I took to rebuild the inner rockers. Lots of time and energy to make sure I don't make a mistake. I too spent hours looking at other builds to come up with a strategy to start the rebuild process. Yes the metal is thin ...

Re: Another 72 510

Thanks Guys! This has been a ton of work, but having completed the passenger side and getting it into primer and knowing that it is solid metal feels really good. I rolled the car out of the garage and spun it around and now have to do the same on the drivers side. Fortunately I have already rebuilt...

Re: Another 72 510

Spent the day finishing the stripping process on the rest of the 1/4, seems like it has had little in the way of repairs over the years on this side and the choice to strip was to eliminate the "rust spiders" weird rust that appears under the factory primer layer. This is visible on a lot of areas o...

Re: Nissan Bluebird Coupe (JCCA Race Car)

Yes it is scary to me too, just was there recently on my project. Best advice I can give is to cut back until you have a solid mounting surface then start the rebuild process. Not like I am any expert tho...

Re: Another 72 510

Another bit of work on the long process to beat the rust. I now have the passengers side completed, feels good as I have not seen my own car with complete metal from front to rear on one side! Had my buddy come over and we banged out another couple of nights work to get to this stage. https://i.imgu...

Re: Another 72 510

Hey Byron, long time since we chatted. The patch panels are from Z car Depot not a bad fit but will need a little work to make them fit. They had for a short time the full rear quarters for 2 door but I hesitated and they sold out! I think they are from muscle car GT (same as the Quarters, front fen...

Re: Another 72 510

The final part of the day had us test fitting the patch panel to make sure it is going to work with the inner wheel well transition. https://i.imgur.com/x4blWNF.jpg Also filled in the rear marker light area and patched the lower rear rocker area. Used a product from WURTH to protect the panel from w...

Re: Another 72 510

Got some more work done on the rockers, did final welding and grinding for the inner part of the rockers. I used a clean and strip puck to get rid of the majority of the surface rust, then applied the rust neutralizer to sit for 24hrs, rinsed as per the directions then a quick sand on all other part...

Re: Another 72 510

Thanks Keith. I am back on this with a vengeance, but this takes a lot longer than I want it to. I am writing this and thinking that I will take a break tonight as I have been going strong since Saturday.

Re: Another 72 510

I know we are all picture whores here are some old photos I have yet to post. I did start on the other rocker for the passenger side and built a rack to easily move the car around. Last shot is an inspirational shot to get me motivated! https://i.imgur.com/4KSGLeP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DTnV8gK.jpg...

Re: Another 72 510

Thanks guys, this project has been stalled (wow 6 months go's by like that) as I was working on my 1966 Nova. Changed from a turbo 350 to a 700r4 (4L60) had to build the trans, re & re and build a trans mount shorten drive shaft and change the shifter to accommodate the 4 speed. Other than that took...

Re: Another 72 510

Got the doors stripped and ready for the bodywork to begin on those, was surprised at how little damage I found under the paint. One small dent that was visible before stripping process, and one larger dent that was beside the door handle on drivers door. https://i.imgur.com/Mgqd415.jpg https://i.im...
