510 rummage sale in Vancouver

I need to clear up the shop and I have a bunch of stuff to unload. I'm really not sure on what this stuff is worth so if I'm off base let me know. I'm not stuck on getting the highest price possible so all prices are OBO, I would just like to see this stuff go to a good home but that doesn't mean lo...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

I was just meaning to post I've had a bit of luck. I found guy near my place who seems to know his way around diesels (Adria import). Compression was tested and is good across the board. He checked the injectors and one of the nozzles and one was stuck wide open. Probably the cause for much of my sm...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

I'm not quite ready to give up on this project yet but I am a bit surprised at how hard it is to even have someone look at this engine. I would have thought with all the JDM diesels kicking around here it would be easy, but people seem to want to stick with only what they're used to. Fair enough I g...

Re: 2016 All Japanese Classic - SOLD OUT!!! - August 28th - Waterfront Park

Just wanted to reiterate how great the show was, thanks to everyone who organized. The quality of the 510s and all the other cars really is amazing, it's great to see so many awesome builds. Apologies for nearly killing everyone with my smoky departure. Unfortunately the 2dr also blew the clutch jus...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

Bryan, Not a lot to update. I got new glow plugs for the car and it starts easier, but it's a pretty terrible smoke show. It's hard to drive because of the fumes. Unfortunately I think the engine is probably toast. I'm having a heck of a time finding anyone who will touch it to do a compression test...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

I'm tooling around in the wagon these days trying to work out a few bugs. It seems to be running fine except it does smoke a fair bit on first starting and running, but it seems to clear when it warms up. I had an exhaust made up which is a bit sub par, and I swear I'm getting an exhaust leak in the...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

I did try mocking up the bar to be spaced down a bit but it still seemed to interfere. I have to get under the car again and give it another go to make sure this is the case. Driving it a bit, I'm wondering whether the bar will be too much anyway. The car is stiff with 225lb up front and 215lb in th...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

Still not much time to write, but I'll post a couple pics. I've adjusted the clutch and the car seems to have much more pep, feels pretty decent. I haven't gone for a good drive yet so hard to tell what it will feel like. It's not cooling properly, I wired up my fan recently so I have to see if that...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

Sorry, it's been a while since I posted. I have been working away though. I finally got the wagon back up and running today and ran it around the block. Thankfully the clutch seems ok, I think it's slipping a bit but likely a pushrod issue. And the brakes seem ok. The car seems a little ... sluggish...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

I've been puttering away on the car. Have a bit of progress.... radiator installed.jpg I ordered a new champion aluminum radiator. Got it in and installed a derale electric fan I have sitting around and will end up using an adjustable thermostat control on it. Seems to fit ok, the fan is pretty tigh...

Re: wagon rear shock question

That's pretty much what I was wondering, thanks. Hoping the shocks I ordered will work out now given their stroke range has my minimum and maximum within it. Thanks

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

Hi Baz, You're right, we didn't put the moldings in before installation. We were quite worried it would be easy to bend the stainless on installation and previously when I've had the glass guys do it they install the moldings after. On the rear it seems this is likely the only option, but it seems a...

Re: wagon rear shock question

I'm not sure I totally follow the process you describe. But I don't think any of the shocks I'm looking at will have the potential to bottom out before the suspension does. I guess what I'm wondering now is, if my extended height with the car in the air is 17", but I pick a shock with an extend...

wagon rear shock question

I'm in the process of swapping out my wagon rear suspension and am looking to source some shocks. I have perused the realm and have not found much info on what to do when changing the leafs themselves (re-arcing, adding a leaf, new springs) if there is a change in the eye to eye distance on the shoc...

Re: LD20 turbo wagon build

Well, it's back in. With a couple pointers from James and a lot of guiding and maneuvering from Stephan we got the engine back in a couple days ago. It was probably a bit easier than the first time except I forgot to drop the center link until we got most of the way in but dropping it just off the i...
