Re: R180 diff? Something seemed off and the car's geared really short... best avenue to fix?
Previous owner was an... interesting... fellow. He fetched quite a few parts from other junkyard datsuns... L18 (from a truck?), 280zx five speed, and now the rear diff... so bizarre. This car has been fun to work on (for many reasons!). Who knows what else I haven't found yet that's different. Tha...

I skimmed through quick, so didnt see if it was confirmed that you have an r180 or not... Judging by the distance between the fill plug and the bolt to the right of it, along with the half shafts I think you might have a r180 from a z. Those halfshafts are different then all the spare 510 ones I hav...

Re: Basket Case
No wiring isn't terrible. I have rewired both my 510 and my 620 with American Autowire kits and been happy with the results.
We all like seeing photos even if they are in rough shape!

Welcome! A few east coasters on this board, I'm up in the Northeast. Tons of info on here. Post up some photos! We all love to see the cars, even if they are projects.

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE
Not much to update... Got some time to mess around with it this afternoon and swapped the B&M short shifter to a stock KA shifter -- my god the throws are long! -- anyway it unfortunately did not fix my deceleration grind... so that rules out the shifter... need to get under the car again to see if ...

Re: Does anyone make replacement wiring harnesses?
Your next option would be a full rewire if it is really that bad. I have done it on both my 510 and 620 with the American Autowire Highway 15 kit - and been very happy with the results. It does take a little bit of thinking and tweaking since most all of the kits are designed for American cars... th...

Side note - Anyone know what the thread pitch is for the nuts that hold the grill badge on? Found out mine was just glued on... nearly lost it!

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE
That amount of castor would of course make the steering very, very light. If I remember, stock was 4.5. See what you think at high speed. Again, the more castor you have, it induces more negative camber on turns, which really helps with front end bite. Not to be critical of the alignment shop...but...

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE
I was up at Weirs Beach last weekend and saw a Red 510 cruising up by past SS Mt. Washington dock my wife shouted out the window of the van "Nice 510" It had Mass plated so I figured it was you, was it? Wasn't me... Ive got antique CT plates on mine. But now I am curious--- another red 510 in Mass?...

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE
Found a place locally that specializes in performance alignments and got an apt Friday morning to get the front end done.
Gonna shoot for
-1.5 camber
+5 caster
1/16 toe in.

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE
Definitely setting it up with some toe in up front for street use. It’s built as an AutoX/track car... but let’s be real, 99% of its miles are street miles. Rear is another ball game... the crossmember is slotted so there is some adjustment, but I need to find a shop willing to mess with it... event...

Met a local Z guy last week and got some motivation to get working on the 510 --- probably should have left it since we are in prime driving season right now in the NE... but dove in anyway. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50382850841_112d978c2b_c.jpg Untitled by D M , on Flickr Swapped my coilo...

Ive got a really bad noise under decel... I wonder if this plays into it at all... Ill have to put the car up soon and look.greenthumb wrote: ↑07 Sep 2020 22:54The 510 looks great also. You’ll love that KA. Make sure you enlarge that tunnel width wise or you might find a bunch of rattling under acceleration/deceleration
