Trunk sealing and general seal question
Hey all, I have been getting a lot of exhaust/gas smell in the car and I read somewhere that it could be getting in through the trunk. Someone suggested putting a rag in the edge of the seal, closing the trunk and pulling to see if you get much resistance. I did this and did not get too much resista...

What gaskets and where to source?
Hey all, I need a new oil pan and valve cover gasket. What are the best ones these day and where are you buying them? I searched the forums some and I saw a few mentions of Felpro for heads but not specifically oil pan or valve cover and a mention of Hondabond for the oil pan. Any help would be appr...

Re: 510 newbie, 240z veteran
Welcome aboard. As others have mentioned DP racing, and Futofab are great resources. I have bought a lot from DP racing. Don at DP used to race 510's and is very knowledgeable and his prices are reasonable. Personally I would rather support smaller businesses like his instead of Techno Toy Tuning th...

Re: 5spd Transmission grinding and rebuild questions
RMS do you mean to run ATF for a bit to clean things out then replace with something else? It seems like the Redline MT90 is recommended by a lot of people, is there something better I should try? I think I have seen people mention Penzoil Synchromesh. Mike I think I put the correct release collar f...

5spd Transmission grinding and rebuild questions
Hey guys, I just got my car running and I installed a 280zx 5 speed that I bought off of craigslist. When driving if I really take my time with slow shifts everything works fine but if I do any fast shifts I get grinding which is most pronounced from 2nd to 3rd, but I will get it in other gears as w...

Re: 510 Badge Location
Here are some photos from inside the trunk of my 71. I was trying to find some common points/parts to reference off. For the vertical spacing the holes are centered ~2 51/64" (~71mm) down from the underside flange of the tail light opening, or ~1 33/64" (~38.5mm) down from the body crease....

If they were shortened and he bought stock shocks and they were too small would seem to imply that they aren't stock, not sure if that is helpful. As Cartel said it's probably best to measure.

Re: Need help tuning L20 -running too lean on throttle
Thanks Mike, I appreciate the write up and copied this information for future use. It's good to know some of the issues and things to sort out going in to it. I am thinking of ponying up the money to get a BoggBrothers intake.

Re: Need help tuning L20 -running too lean on throttle
Great info guys. Keith I saved that PDF about the 5200 carbs, i am a visual learner as well so seeing the diagrams is super helpful. Understanding what the carb is doing makes it seems less like voodoo magic. It's good to know about the spark plug heat ranges as that's something I didn't know much a...

Re: Need help tuning L20 -running too lean on throttle
Thanks again guys for the feedback. I was having those A/F numbers "17-18 lean when giving it the throttle but now you say 14-15 dropping to mid 12s" but I have been pulling it in to range as I tweak jetting. I just went for a drive and things are looking pretty good across the board and i...
