Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
I did stand up and give myself a standing ovation after... I sorted out all the wiring yesterday and got everything buttoned back up and took her out for a spin. The tach is seriously the stablest of any I have ever had in a Datsun... I am used to a little bit of a bouncy needle in both my Z and my ...

Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
Mission Accomplished! Finally got back around to the Tach install after having the car parked all winter! After re-reading all the instructions on this thread and staring forever at the wiring diagram, I decided that my effort to cut into the wiring inside the cabin under the dash must have been my ...

Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
Hey Guys - Thanks for posting this Qwik510 as that is the article that I based all my work on - and it says negative side. But Byron's post and a couple others clearly say positive... SOOOOO, I am going to try + tomorrow and see what happens. I definitely have the 4 wire tach - with the two white wi...

Thanks very much guys.

Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
Hey DatzenMike - Ya, I have it on the coil negative. Goes from ignition, through tach, to coil negative. I would really like to know if anyone has had success with the resistor concept - there is mention of that in the Dime Quarterly article... I am just throwing darts guessing now... I guess it is ...

Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
Hey Mike - I did try the tach the other direction... I saw a couple comments about that too... in the opposite direction, it didn't respond... That is cool info about the resistor. So, does that mean that the 1k resistor at 1/4 watt would probably lead to the same result? I am assuming as much. So, ...

Re: Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
Thanks for the response Heinrich. I don't know enough about electrical to recognize a reasonable starting point, but the couple of posts I saw suggested 1K ohm - implying that it had been done that way and worked. So, primarily I am wondering if my wattage was just too high... Does that make any sen...

Factory Tachometer Install with EI - Resistorr Size for use with EI Dizzy
Hey Guys - I have just gone through the process of wiring in a stock tach to my 72 510. The car runs an EI matchbox distributor and I believe that I have it wired correctly after reading through multiple posts and a bunch of surfing - and chatting to Jim - Zkars. The tach reads close at idle, but th...

Thanks PoorMtnKid. I found some pics that look like the fit nicely. I figured there would be a little goofing around to get it to work... but has ro be better than existing!
