Finally have the body removed from the chassis and stuffed into my cargo trailer. Whew. While to cab mount bolts came apart fairly easily, 3 of the box mount bolts proved to be very stubborn. The tab affixed to the heads were relatively useless in preventing the bolt from turning and nearly impossib...
Almost ready to pull the body off the frame, have been working on the truck pretty steady. Unfortunately the engine had been swapped out at some time as I discovered an L18 residing within. That motor and 4 speed has been sold now leaving the decision as to what to propel the truck with open for the...
Finally got to pick up my '76 620 project truck and have begun the process of stripping it down. I have also bought a '86 720 that will donate it's chassis for upgraded front suspension including disc brakes. Still tossing about ideas for the engine, the 620 has L20 + 4 speed, the 720 has naps-z2.4 ...
I'm learning! It looks like doing a SR20DE is a good way to go (DET even better?!?). 2750 lb truck... Overall I anticipate swapping into the 620 would be very similar to doing a 510. I'm going to have to lean on you young guys for some technical support, as I'm pretty old tech myself. Where in Alber...

Wow, now there is some really useful stuff! Helps me understand the essentials in modern motor swaps (me caveman - SBC fit anything with hammer) and the direction I am likely to go into my 620 (SR20DE...) It looks a bit tight on the drivers side around the steering. Can someone tell me the weight di...

Yes indeed - at least the truck is still younger than me!
I may indeed want that trans - lets see where the whole engine swap thing goes first.iceD wrote:If you want to get back on topic I have a Maxima 5 speed, according to Magic Mikes formula, $300 plus shipping from V7E 1W9. Or I will deliver it in the lower mainland.
My intent is to run the original engine IF I can get a decent boost in power - main thing is to have reliability - I'm building this to drive it not primarily for show. But if a couple hundred HP isn't practical then I'm open to doing a swap. At this point I'm not concerned about sticking with Nissa...
The 620 is a '76 KC with 4 speed. Thanks for the info - I won't have the truck in my garage until spring so won't probably be jumping on a trans yet - working out the plan of what exactly I'm going to build as. I'm leaning heavily to staying with the L20B but turbo'd, I'd like to net around 250hp as...
Yes that would be for the 620. If I can make up the difference via driveshaft that would be fine. That trans had a dogleg pattern (R-1,2-3,4-5) that I would like to swap in, the 620 has a 4 speed right now.

Wah, pictures are no longer posted. What's the current status on the truck?
Hi gang, I have acquired a 620 to rebuild and in normal fashion the fenders are rotted away and my searches for replacements hasn't been very successful. Does anyone have a lead to a source for jobber steel replacements? Ideally I'm looking for a pair of front fenders plus a tailgate. Thanks!
