Re: Gold digger

I did an electronic release (viewtopic.php?p=286719#p286719). Most of it should be applicable to a full manual release too. The hardest thing is drilling the catch mechanism (case hardened) to attach the pull cable to. I had to use a carbide drill.

Re: Stu's 1972 4 Door

It is hard to see the shape when with multiple colors. What I've done is, get a good wide beam light, turn off all the lights in the work area and cast a shadow down the worked areas. That shadow will follow any unwanted contour, revealing the need of more beer for more work. Great tip! I'll give i...

More Bodywork

To get all of the paint off the roof and not spend a bunch of time sanding a giant metal drum (crazy how LOUD the roof is when you sand with a DA), I used paint stripper and covered it with plastic so it does not dry out and really gets time to work (30-60 min) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/kjdn...

Looks awesome. Clean and shiny motors are always so satisfying.

More doors and starting autobody class

Been a while since I updated, but body work is boorrrrring and even worse to read about. Basically I have got all four doors sealed and in primer so they can be hung back on the car before I start replacing all of the rear sheet metal. Want to make sure I have good sight lines before cutting stuff o...

Re: Jeff's '70 2 Door

Thanks. I might do something similar so there is not a huge live wire running the full length of the car. What amperage are you running on the breaker? I like the Blue Sea 187 Series breakers ( https://www.bluesea.com/products/category/14/30/Circuit_Breakers/187-Series?Mounting=Surface_Mount ) becau...

Re: Jeff's '70 2 Door

Car is looking awesome. Glad the wiper motor timing change worked well.

Is the breaker at the battery for the main lead to the starter or just the chassis circuits?

It is the small one from Harbor Fright. It needed to be better sealed so I did that after the 90 day warranty. Longer parts have to hang out then get flipped.

Re: Blue '71 Project

Thanks. I’m thinking of doing the same but not sure if I want the inside of the doors to be B/C or single stage. I’m thinking B/C for everything you can see (jambs, inside doors, under trunk lid) but single stage for floors, firewall, roof, inside pillars. Basically the pinch weld at the doors and w...

One door at a time

Since I am doing a complete color change and the previous respray (dark green over original frog green) was done very poorly, I pretty much have to get back down to the factory primer and/or metal. I also want to be able to paint the passenger compartment/door jambs and the 'inside' of the doors, th...

Re: Stu's 1972 4 Door

Great write up on replacing all of the hinge bushings. How would one get that bushing kit from Wayne Davis and any info on what the price was? I'm curious how the bushing kit differs from the one sold from Z Car Depot, https://zcardepot.com/products/door-hinge-bushing-repair-kit-240z-510?variant=32...

I’ve watched a couple videos on removing torsion springs in the trunk, but only on a Mustang/Cougar. Looks like your tool is very similar to what I’ve seen on YouTube. When you install the next set, can you take a picture of where it holds the spring?
