Re: Stu's 1972 4 Door

It is hard to see the shape when with multiple colors. What I've done is, get a good wide beam light, turn off all the lights in the work area and cast a shadow down the worked areas. That shadow will follow any unwanted contour, revealing the need of more beer for more work.

Re: 2.3L of fun

I would keep the stock heavy flywheel. I put for the first time ever a lightened flywheel in one of my cars and I hate it. It makes clutch release more of a pain and didn't feel like any more power. I also read afterwards a dude who worked at a shop with a dyno run his car after every upgrade. Ligh...

Re: Stock front wheel alignment

It's likely they don't have the specs for our 510's. Here in NH I could not find a single place to do mine for that reason. I told them I had my own specs and it was a double decline due to they didn't want to be responsible of any issues none vehicle specs may cause causing a bunch of come backs be...

You had me at tool through the twisties! I'm getting ready to run the car out to Limerock for the Vintage Races over Labor Day weekend, but sometime in Sept/Oct when the weather is good could be perfect.
Lime Rock next weekend ha? Hmm!!
I wanted to get up there for it! Unfortunately ended up away that weekend. I saw a few photos of Dave's race car, would be great to see it in person!
Well, if you were in need of some Futofab gear we could meet at my place then head up to Dunbarton for a purchase/visit and tool thr...

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE

We should have all gotten together and gone up to watch Dave Patten run his 510 at the "Race to the Clouds" Mt. Washington Auto Road race last weekend plus to see Pastrana break his record. But I had forgotten about the race plus got the date F'kt up Argggh!

Re: '71 4 Door - Mikuni'd KA24DE

Looks great with the "D" slotted mags. Ya, being that low (in my opinion) on Massachusetts/NH roads is not a great idea, to many suspension killing pot holes and sunken manhole covers. This is the only reason my 510 doesn't sit as low as most. Now that Paul has his 510 on the road we need ...

Re: Looking to pull the engine out of the car and work on it some... what am I really getting into?

Nice! engine building is always a fun time. I see what looks like you've had the blocks head gasket surface resurfaced? Did they attach the timing cover to the block so it got cut to the same height? otherwise you'll have a height mismatch between the timing cover and blocks head gasket surfaces and...

Re: Side draft intake mani, size differences?

Those are nice and short fersure!! but don't the two manifold have to be vacuum connected to each other for proper operation? This is what I've always heard plus all dual carb manifolds including SU's are vacuum connected.

L18 Nice!! If you had to loosen a cam tower to pull the cam out then you have binding which come about from a warped head. May have to have top and bottom surfaces cut.

Re: Valve heights.

It was a quick dismantle and lap the valves while doing other things to the engine. The head was in good shape so I slapped it back together. How does an L head come from the factory? I looked up lash pad part numbers and it seems like there is only one for int and ex. Yes one lash pad for exhaust ...

Re: Valve heights.

I'd say yes to your question about lash pad and retainers all being the same. If the exhaust valve is .050" taller and the seat is .050" thicker protruding into the combustion chamber that would keep the valve stem tip heights of all the valves the same or close. So yes to keep the same va...

Forgot to include the tool. It's missing a sleeve to pull the bushing through as I forgot to include it.

Re: What did you do on your 510 today?

Well, its more of what I did over the past few days. I replaced my rear control arms bushings because the inner metal tube had slipped causing the control arm to rest up against the crossmembers pivot brackets. I had a set of the bushings I picked up from a well known 510'r years ago but noticed the...

Re: What did you do on your 510 today?

Lou, look into vinyl for the hood instead of paint. Also, is that a Bofenkamp air dam? I still have a Dobi type with the rubber skirt. Vinyl would be good I'll check into it. The front air dam along with front and rear fenders are original Quickskins pieces that the previous owner Brent Morgan got ...
