Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Yah, if anyone is still running stock bulbs for really bright lights a relay would be the way to go..

Anyone with a battery in the trunk would have an easy go of it, as good power is right there.

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

I was over at the 510 today and did some quick testing. For sure, at full battery voltge 12 -13, my LED 1156 was significantly brighter than the standard 1156 bulb. At the turn signals, at 10 VOLTS, the LED was WAY brighter than the standard, which has an almost yellow glow to it, hence the dullness...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

When I was at Andy's yesterday, that is EXACTLY what he suggested. What would be cool to do also would be to have a variable DC power supply...check bulbs at 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 volts, see what the brightness change is in reality. I know in my case, 8 volts to start, the incandescent was very dull. The...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Yesterday I went to try to get at my wiring harness's under my dash/steering column. I basically gave up as I just cannot easily strip stuff away now. My tach and wide-band are mounted on the top steering cover, then a nest of thermo-couple wires, methanol spray trigger wires, blah, blah, are in the...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

That is GREAT, it does show we are losing voltage as a common theme in my opinion. You had said you cleaned your turn signal, as my question was, did you take it apart? I did not get over to my car today but am going over to clean some connections tomorrow. Yes, the jumper gives you stable voltage a...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Here is a snap shot of the flasher and turn signal part of the system. The signal flasher SHOULD have 12 volts at that connection, as that has come from the four way flasher switch. As I tested, it does, so the next issue is at the flasher butt connector ( at least based in this diagram) for any iss...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Of Course, what a good idea!

I am going over to the 510 today and do some cleaning of front grounds and take the steering column apart.

I will THINK about whether I will pull switch out.....

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

While I think of it, as Robyn and I try to figure this out, it would be great if we could get another few voltage readings from non messed with harness's, specially the voltage at that rear turn signal socket, left and right. If we see a pattern of low voltage, it kinda either speaks to a general re...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

So did you take that switch apart? It is all sealed up. That little spring loaded ball bearing looked like a bear to get back in and together?! I must admit that I am gun shy to take mine apart, I may just spray it with cleaner inside if I can. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"...as I do have functi...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Thanks Norm, that would be good. Today I stopped by Robyn's and we did some testing. He had the same lower/low voltage at the back of his cars also. After working our way back and unplugging the harness at the steering column, that feed the turn signals, we finally found a full battery voltage at 12...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

So that is virtually the same as mine at this point.

I may pop over to the garage tomorrow and do some wire wiggling.

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Ok, thanks Robyn..so I am not unique at this point, that makes me feel better! I did wonder if there is just a plain line loss to that back area?!. I spent today off and on between naps studying the wiring diagram, I think I have it kinda figured out. There are many places where a bad connection cou...

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

I did take that ground off and clean it, the one in the trunk. I wish it was not so hard to get under my dash, I would like to pull the plug and re-connect.

Also, what did the bulb and voltage change AFTER I changed that front bulb?!

Robyn, do you have 12 volts at the rear turn signal socket?

Re: Turn signal flasher relay

Morning Byron, I will get a copy done for you no problem, I enlarged mine to 12" x 20", really easy to read, in colour of course. No worries about this weekend, family "retirement" brunch for me and then meeting a fellow to sell my Honda wheels to. Your likely camping on the July long weekend? As I ...

Re: Thrift store find

No, that is a classic though! What I did find as I have been going through things was my Datsun Jacket from the 70's, that I thought I had long lost. As I have been dragging stuff away from work, I found my fire suit bag there. I guess at one of the many either hillclimbs or road races at Mission I ...
