Re: 510 chassis/subframe upgrades to compensate for added hp

When you look back at the time period when I built the car, 1978, our steering boxes were in excellent shape, and, there was not the selection of racks out there that you can choose from now. Most everything was still steering boxes. It was not till we all started running the bigger and stickier sli...

There is no way in hell I would do that now....plus, is not the anti-roll bar in the way?

Re: vw rad with L20

I actually did that with my upper hose, went to Lordco and asked if I could just cruise the rack and find something with the right bends, found one, trimmed it, looks factory.

Re: 510 chassis/subframe upgrades to compensate for added hp

Funny, I was looking at some pictures today, and these popped up. One of the best mods I did for steering/frame flex was to REALLY triangulate the steering box brace, not just some little plate to the body, with a small back up pieces. With real race tires we did a test and watched the frame really ...

Re: vw rad with L20

I use the universal hose with no problem, but, if it has that wire inside as support, keep an eye on it as they do corrode over time.

Re: 2009 510 Calendar / Submissions

To answer your question, calendars have not been done for many years now, I think James did some a few years ago. I'm not sure if any old ones that did not get sold lurk in someones basement. They were nice while it happened, lots of very good pictures of our 510's over the years, members that have ...

I'm pretty sure it would be this car, as seen in it's heyday at Knox Mountain Hillclimb.

Re: What did you do on your 510 today?

Unlike our poor compatriot above me, my car started on the 2nd crank, which surprised the hell out of me, it was 39F (4C) in the garage. My new storage garage, not that I'm complaining, has the attic hatch right above my car. So, when my daughter or son-in-law need to remove anything, or, in this ca...

Re: B210 brake booster install

The one thing I did that made a tremendous difference in BOTH pedal FEEL and MODULATION, was to put a weld in a 2" extension into the brake pedal...it's all about leverage. It also let me heel and toe, which is a bit of a misnomer as I only use both sides of my foot. I think the English came up with...

Nice work, good to see you used adel clamps! You should see what some chimps did when running a propane line on my son-in-laws trailer.

Re: R200 LSD options/setup

Just saw this thread. I too ran my diff at around 45 lbs breakaway, on race tires and of course street duty, worked just awesome.

After seeing this thread I will check mine again and see where it is at after some 37 years of use.
