Re: Scary times

Actually, I was thinking of then putting them on just one of our cars, as we all use 15" now, that would be the best back to back test.

Re: Bert Vorgon's Spring Maintenance Project

Spray painted my grill and headlight bezels this morning, mirror is next. Having trouble figuring out the right brake bleed nipple for my rear BMW 2002 calipers. Also an interesting issue with the size of the bleeder hex and the wrenches I have. The bleeder is listed at 7MM...in actuality it is just...

Re: Scary times

Ok, here is the deal..

Norm buys the Nanking's, I buy the Nitto's, Byron buys something else, James gets something, then we do the tire test.

Re: Scary times

It is the "known quantity" thing for sure, as I did enough experimenting with springs and shocks back in the 70's and 80's, been there done that. After buying those R888's I found that a really bad experience. I was up to almost 40 PSI and the car still moved around on the carcass on turn ...

Re: Bert Vorgon's Spring Maintenance Project

I'm hoping that James's friend ROB, will be coming to do the repair. I'm assuming he will use like an air brush type spray, but I'm not sure what his technique will be, other than not brushing. I have have no experience doing this type of thing and would rather have it done right by a professional. ...

Re: Bert Vorgon's Spring Maintenance Project

Last week Matt helped me bleed the brakes, ended up with a bleed nipple issue on one of the BMW calipers on the rear. The inboard one would not loosen up. I am going to try to track down some new bleed screws, stupid things are so small, 7MM, and you cannot get a box end wrench over the nipple itsel...

Re: Carburetor problem

I would suggest that you have blown something into the main fuel jet/passage. Or something got to the bottom of the air bleed. Try back blowing some air if you can. What carb is that? Is there fuel in the float bowl, should be up about halfway on the glass. Try, with the engine running at idle'ish, ...

Re: Scary times

I guess I'm "DORKY"....won't be the first time....

I'm more concerned about gearing than looks at this point, my car is actually set up for 13" x 20" tall race tires for all the reasons, but, in the driving we/I do now, having the top end is just great.

Re: Scary times

13's???

And WHO would be making the tire? More to tires than just throwing some rubber in a mold like for the custom car guys. I want to know that at 140 MPH my tire is not going to let me down.

For racing maybe but I like the top end I have with my 23" tall tire now.

Re: 6 inches of Rust

Matt is going to be away in Japan for 10 days so I will be pulling a grab handle off the Tracker to see if it would work.

Will the 69' position be the same in the later years?

Re: Hello

Do not underestimate of what is really required in a 510 with that level of HP, the next weakest link will be your enemy. Tires will be key to use all of your power down low and with high torque levels keeping traction will be hard. While that maybe fun in some ways, having a good balance of power t...

Re: Scary times

I like the sounds of the Nitto's and they have good reviews, for what that is worth. Comments mention the stiff sidewall, which is key for not having a rolly polly tire that needs 40+ PSI to retain shape. I will be good for another season or so on my Yoko's, going to ROTATE my tires this time. Wheel...

Re: Scary times

I do run the 205/50 x 15 size. My concern, founded or not, is that I really like a firm sidewall construction, as my car was set up for Goodyear Cantilever race slicks at the time. The Yoko's are very close to that, so the car just feels like it is/was on slicks, and I can run 30 - 32 PSI and all is...

Scary times

I post this up as I am a bit of shock after a discussion today with an old club member looking for tires. I went looking at Yokohama tires again, where I now see that the 048 is done and the tire that Norm bought, the a050 is now being replaced by the next generation, the a052...but... it only start...
