Re: Transmission dowel pins

The one on the left is likely JDM and has a waffle pattern. Has a CAS mounted in the top of the bell reading the starter ring teeth? Can't remember where I got the picture but can't find it on the KAs here at all. The right is the older style ribs.

I have one, supposedly from an S-10 200sx but looks too wide and slightly taller but not by much.

Re: Transmission dowel pins

No the lower driver's side are all the same L16/18 20B/Z20/22/24,CA18/20, SD22/25 and the KA. 11022-21000 Top ones are the same except possibly different material or something minor as indicated by the slightly different part number. 30412-H1000 or 30412-H1001. Never heard of a 71C not fitting a 71B...

Re: My L20B build, piston cam and other questions

As the L20B piston does not reach the top of the block anyway, why not mill 0.5mm off the deck? This removes 2.8cc from the combustion chamber. Now mill the head 0.75mm for an additional 4.25cc removed. Use cam tower shims to keep the chain tight. This is 7cc or the same as running 4.36cc L18 piston...

Re: A87 Camshaft identification request

A87 and L20B cams were essentially the same. Looks like the cam was reground. Hardly any shoulder left on it.

Re: A87 Camshaft identification request

Etched into the back of the cam? Maybe a picture?

Usually the A87 was used on L18s and had an L20B cam. Does it have square protrusions at the halfway point?

Re: Selling 5 speed datsun transmission

Yes starting in '80 all 71B 5 speeds were equipped with a reverse check sleeve that blocks a straight downshift from 5th into reverse. A handy little addition. I have a '79 280zx 5 speed in my 710 and put the rear case from an '85 Diesel on it. Mostly for the shorter shift throw it provided but the ...

Re: Selling 5 speed datsun transmission

Well it may be as there was no difference between the z and the '79 only zx. All '80 and up zx, 810, Maxima 71Bs had small changes on the outside that this one does not have.

Re: Selling 5 speed datsun transmission

Can only be a '77-'78 if it's a 280z and only a '79 if it's a 280zx. This one was made before '80. It also only has the reverse light switch so most likely an EFI car like a z, zx or 810. And it has a car slave cylinder on it. The 620 had same 71B transmission, but several more emission related swit...

Re: Cam etching/engraving decipering

Yes, it's a nice package. Even with the crappy head it runs very strong. Even came with a light (10lb) aluminum flywheel. The head is an early square port. ALL L series were square exhaust port heads. Only the '78-'80 W58 head L20B has round ports. The U67 is a great head in that the earlier L16 ca...

Re: Cam etching/engraving decipering

There were two L20B heads. Square exhaust '74-'77 and U67 and round exhaust '78-'80 W58. I would assume you are using the U67 as the L16 exhaust fits it better.

U67 head makes a 9.84 compression on a Z22 block... again... very nice.

Re: Cam etching/engraving decipering

260 may be the duration. L4s are rated at 428 degrees but most cams are rated at 0.050" lift so I imagine the factory cams are 220 or so really.

Most L4 are 0.413" lift some early L16s were around 0.390"

if 260 and .450" lift that's just right and not too radical..
