Re: Trick Tires for Ice Racing

http://www.uniwerks.ca/tractionizer/IMG_3481mod.jpg This is the actual method we are currently using and on that exact machine & tire combo. The "SACtionizer" is made by Scott Miller (SAC = Scottish Autosport Club). He has these machines for sale for $900 CDN and also does these for you at the club...

Re: Trick Tires for Ice Racing

Will try and get a closer peak at the tires this weekend. Others have mentioned that this particular team is somewhat protective of the vehicle so it tells me something is up here otherwise there wouldn't be an issue.

Trick Tires for Ice Racing

OK, enough is enough - getting tired of continually finishing at the back of the pack. What is the secret here? I know there are some veterans of ice racing wars on here so I need some input particularly from you guys in the west. What is the trick setup for rubber-to-ice class (ie. non-studded tire...

Skyline next. Just have to finish the seam welding of the shell then off to the body shop for a paint job.

New SR20DET Build

Slowly starting to get back at some projects noe that the shop build is almost complete. First order of business was to do a refresh of one of the old engines that was originally used in the Grasshopper. My son Eric rebuilt this to use in his 180SX track car. He did a full tolerance check and increa...

Re: It's Targa time

Haven't been to a rally in Western Canada for years and years. I think the last one was the Rocky Mountain CASC performance rally out of Pincher Creek in the late 80's. I was driving a Suzuki Forsa entered by George Gibbons (owner of Abbotsford Volvo/Suzuki at the time). It is the same car we used t...

Re: Media blast or acid dip?

By all means, soda blasting. That is the prep. method I used to build The Grasshopper - no panel warping at all. In prep. for the blast though you need to get all undercoating and seam sealer stripped off first. You then was the whole thing off with water and then immediately apply the etch and prim...

Re: Underbody coating?

Wurth makes an excellent product for this called their Underbody Sealer. It is basically a black plastic goop that is applied with a special spray gum and when it dries provides a toughm moisture barrier. You can apply paint directly over it if you wish. Wurth products are carried by most automotive...

Re: Realm 510 spotting in Targa rally add

Thanks guys for remembering the "Grasshopper". Just a little update. Both the Grasshopper and the donor chassis (a '69 4-door) are resting peacefully in the back corner of the shop. A few of the pieces have ended up on my oldest son's 180SX such as the ECU, injectors, MAFS, clutch (TEMPORARILY!!!!)....

Two Spectators Killed at Austrian Rally

Rally deaths down to driver error, say organisers By William Green Driver error was responsible for the deaths of a mother and daughter who were killed when a car ploughed into them at an international rally in Upper Austria yesterday (Sun), race organisers have said. Re: Custom Rear Control Arms

Just a thought ... but wouldn't it be easier to just scrap the whole subframe/control arm setup and graft in an S13/300ZX/Skyline rear subframe? This way you would get access to a lot of aftermarket parts and get a much better handling car. I haven't spent much time investigating the feasibility, bu...

Re: Suspension/Rear End Upgrades

I have both a 510 and an R32 GT-R. There isn't anything on the R32 I would consider grafting onto the 510 except for maybe the brakes - but even that would be a lot of fuss when there are easier parts available to do those tasks. R32 & R33 Skyline, S13 & S14 (240SX), Z32 (300ZX) are all very similar...

Re: Diff's & LSD's

Just unsure if the R200 is overkill. Probably is unless you are edging around 300RWHP. If you do find one of the 300ZX CLSD's, make sure you also get the CV shafts. Putting one of these in the 510 shell is not a simple bolt-in either unlike sourcing an R180 LSD. There is a fair bit of modding invol...
