Re: WTB: 720 FS5W71B external shifting components.

What Mike is saying is correct. The photos I provided are showing the wear point on the striker guide and stopper pin that limit the side-to-side neutral shift gate movement and to keep the striker guide in position during forward and aft shifter movement. In my situation, the side-to-side movement ...

WTB: 720 FS5W71B external shifting components.

Looking for the external shifting components from a late model 720 FS5W71B 5-speed. I have an '83 280ZX FS5W71B 5-speed, but the "striker guide" and "striker guide stop pin" are a bit worn. I would like to replace them with components from a 720 FS5W71B in order to give a shorter shift throw. I woul...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

^^^ that may be true, but I will know and wonder if the scratches (even though I will dress them up) are causing problems. So I'm looking for a replacement 5th/reverse shift rod.

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

It may be that the shift rod scratches don't effect operation, but the far left side of the rod goes through the adapter plate and the far right side into the bell housing. I might be able to dress out the scratches in those areas. However, I would still like a rod without any scratches. I can't bel...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

The rod simply moves forward and back about 1/2" each way. A scratch won't affect how it works, only the fork does anything. That is true if the scratches were just localized. I wish I had noticed when removing the shift fork from the rod, but the zig zag scratches extend from the shift fork all th...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

Now I need the 5th/reverse shift rod. When I removed it and wriggled the shift fork off the rod, something was inside the fork and caused scratches on the rod. Not the roll pin either. My bad!! So does anyone have a 5th/reverse shift rod for a 71B transmission? One without any scratches, dents, rust...

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

Still looking for a "like new" front cover for the early B series.

However, I heard that even the later model B series front covers would work, you just have to get the later and larger B series counter shaft bearing shims. Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

BTW, here are a few more pictures of the transmission, thoughts? Does L4 NMCA mean an Australian transmission? It is a 5-speed but I wonder if a close ratio. I'll have to count the turns. Re: WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

toylet: I have seen that one from American Power Train, but I am not sure it is for the smaller main bearings of the FS5W71B. I guess I could call them. datzenmike? I saw a video where the guy screwed a long bolt into the hole of the pivot ball and tightened the bolt to loosen the cover. speaking of...

WTB: Front cover for '83 FS5W71B transmission

The front cover on mine has a grove where the throwout bearing sleeve rode. I would like another front cover in as new a condition as possible. Any leads?

Here is mine:

I believe the side with the chamfer goes inboard toward the engine to fit over the crankshaft fillet.

Re: WTB: 1983 280zx 5-speed close ratio

I checked those part numbers with Chad at Chico Nissan and all numbers are NLA.
Poo.
Don't know about any Canadian Nissan dealers so can't say if those numbers are valid outside the US.

So it looks like I'll have to find a used xmission.
