Re: Brake Master Cylinder Rebuildable?

I'm having trouble finding a rebuild kit (per application, anyway). I keep finding the wrong bore size. I did find a kit for a 620 that is for a Nabco 3/4. Will that work? It didn't list a 510 as fitment, but the pic looked the same as mine.

Re: 72 2 Door 510 Restoration-25 years in the making

Thank you. It really does feel like you're healing the car. Very dirty work, though. On the bright side, I am getting a lovely perma-dirt patina on my face and some nice welding "sunburn" on my neck. We'll call it an early start on my summer tan. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii94/rush00...

Re: My 71 510 budget SR20DET build

Beautiful! Most of the pics early in the thread didn't show up for me for some reason, but the later ones do. I love the color.

Re: 72 2 Door 510 Restoration-25 years in the making

Thanks guys! :)

Now that I have a very basic understanding how it works, I might pick up an inexpensive brake from HF. There is so much panel work to be done, it might be worth it for me not to have to drive to town all the time.

Re: 72 2 Door 510 Restoration-25 years in the making

So, I followed Bike Papa's suggestion and made a "template strip" to help me bend my quarter panel patch. I called the sheet metal place in town to see if they'd be willing to bend up the piece for me but got no answer, so I tossed together a temporary brake with stuff I had laying around. http://i2...

Brake Master Cylinder Rebuildable?

When I took my 510 out of it's 17 year hibernation, it had no brakes. I don't know if this is because the BMC is bad or if there are rotted lines (I haven't gotten that far yet). I see no scarring in the body, no corrosion and the plunger rubbers are soft & not cracked or damaged. Can someone tell m...

Re: 72 2 Door 510 Restoration-25 years in the making

Wow! Those are fantastic pieces! All I have is 20 ga steel, so I used it to make my patches. I never even thought of taking it to the sheet metal shop! However, I'd have no idea where to even start making a template. I bent my piece in the vice and then "tuned" it with flat billed vice grips. Here's...

Re: 72 2 Door 510 Restoration-25 years in the making

Good read, Byron. Thanks for sharing. Your friend sounds like a very skilled guy. Today, I cut a hunk of the passenger rusted lower quarter panel out to see what I'm dealing with. It doesn't look good, but I feel confident I can repair it. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii94/rush0011/510/quarter...

Re: 72 2 Door 510 Restoration-25 years in the making

Agreed. WI is the same way.

You're right about the POR! I had rubber gloves on but still manages to get it on me. I don't think it'll ever come off. Lacquer thinner followed by baby oil is usually a good cleaner, but no dice on the POR!
