Re: Bike rides

Mt. Cheam Hike The road heading up to Cheam was just brutal, virtually 4 x 4 the whole way. As an unmaintained road suffering B.C.’s rain and winters, it sure showed it. It was a really cool morning and as we got higher, we disappeared into fog. So much for a view I thought to myself. The clouds wer...

Re: OCTOBERFAST 2018

I have to take the weekend of the 20/21 off the calendar! I am hoping to be at Sonoma Raceway watching Colin Jackson try for his 5th SCCA championship in a row. Going to blast down I-5, stay with the Specialty gang, then work my way up the coast highway.....can you say epic road trip! Thanks Rob, I ...

Re: OCTOBERFAST 2018

Well..ok then. Will the kids fit in your car?

Lets put October 13/14 as our target first attempt. Paul is back from Portugal, as I mentioned the drive to him. Does he have an e-mail?

What's your wife's name? I will phone her and let her know that that date is flexible, as that COULD be our rain alternate!

OCTOBERFAST 2018

It is hard to believe that it is now September, I have been retired for four months now, seems like forever already! I would like to do 1 more long drive this season and for a variety of reasons want to stay in Canada. As I have been criticized for my crazy early starts, I am going to concede for a ...

Re: de-tuning a race engine

Jeff has very valid points, as the real world of traffic driving really does dictate what really works.

Even I had to de-tune my motor once I stopped racing, just to make in good in traffic and at stop lights. Nothing worse than a car that falls flat when you take off from a light.

Re: de-tuning a race engine

My engine is turbo-charged, a Frankenstein 2 litre, built to rev to 8,000+ RPM. Specialty uses JE forged pistons, custom designed for my application to deal with lots of heat on the piston tops, and the top ring land a bit down on the piston. Ring gap is critical. Crower forged connecting rods and t...

Re: de-tuning a race engine

As I said, HP does not come cheap, and hopefully with the right builder and $, you have RELIABILITY!

I won't say what my motor cost but I am into my 17th year with this thing and it has been used hard on occasion to say the least. Built right, good fuel and oil..and NEVER let it detonate.

Re: All Japanese Classic '18 - August 26th - Waterfront Park

Typically...I got up at 4;30, it was dry the whole corridor. Had a coffee and a bath and when I looked outside at 6:30, which is when I had planned to leave to get the car, it was pouring rain. I checked ALL the traffic cameras for the hour drive to get to the show, pouring rain everywhere, so I mad...

Re: de-tuning a race engine

For what it is worth, I fixed my link to the site that talks about cams and how they affect compression: http://www.badasscars.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=68/category_id=13/mode=prod/prd68.htm It's interesting as I lived that one for sure, way too big cam shaft for the task at hand. ...

Re: de-tuning a race engine

A lot of things going on here, I'm maybe not the best to explain, but,... 11:1 is still pretty high for pump fuel...a few of us have been there... with milder cams, that effectively increases the "dynamic" compression, which is not what you want. http://www.badasscars.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=produc...

Re: New to the realm

That would be not very street friendly at all! You would be better to either build or find something else, than try to de-tune this monster. For a nice street friendly power band, you want something that pulls very well from say 3,000 to 5,000/6,000. There would be no bottom end on that motor IMHO. ...

The TPS will flash if battery dead in one of the sensors (4). I put a round piece of black tape over mine...I have a tire pressure gauge.
