Re: Oil Cooler Questions
we cant use the headlight or directional light holes, we need them to stay street legal. We have a 22.5X15.5X2.25 inch core griffin radiator. so i think we would have the cooling capacity for the in-sidetank heat exchanger. ill have to go to the radiator shop to check it out. any more people have an...

Re: 72 510 Group 2 Rally Car
We are working on getting some in car. Usually we have a lot of things to do before the rally, unfortunately the cam is not high on the list(you would think that being a cctv and alarm installer i could get to it). Another update! Nemadji Trails 2 Rally Douquette MN We had our new motor installed, b...

Oil Cooler Questions
Hey everybody. Now that we have done a summer rally with the 510, we realize that we probably could use an oil cooler. How do some of you have your's mounted? Being a rally car, we cant really mount it low. I was thinking putting a duct in below the bumper and direct some air up to behind the right ...

Re: whats 1/2 an inch
We cut our springs down as Dave had said. it puts the car at a good height for realtively smooth, high speed stages. If you are doing a lot of rough roads, you may want to leave it at full length. We are going to use these spring isolators to get some adjustable ride height without fabricating a spr...

Re: 72 510 Group 2 Rally Car
We just had the motor rebuilt. The #1 piston was cracked, the crank was scored and some valves were bent again. So that was a very expensive bill, so we wont be attending Main Forest this year. Thanks for the offer though. We will be attending a car show near us at Northeast Wisconsin Technical Colle...

Re: 72 510 Group 2 Rally Car
The plates are needed as we drive on open public roads in between special stages. and by the rules. The car is "street legal" as well, all the lights and horn must work and also need mirrors and those things needed on a street car. We do drive it on the road once and a while. the week befo...

Re: 72 510 Group 2 Rally Car
No, we didn't do anything other than weld the threaded collars on the bodies. We talked to several people who rallied them and they never said anything. We didn't hit anything that hard, so we will have to wait and see. We have a spare pair of strut assemblies ready if we need them.
Thanks

Re: 72 510 Group 2 Rally Car
Saturday we were feeling faster, running 3rd in class. Until the throttle cable fell off. Agggggghhhhh. Lost 4 min on stage rigging it with tie wire, but were able to continue. 100aw1.jpg 100aw2.jpg At the last service, it was snowing pretty good, but we were running so far back that the faster cars...

Re: 72 510 Group 2 Rally Car
Time for an update. We had several setbacks getting to our next rally, the Rally of the 100 Acre Wood in Salem Mo, on Feb. 27 and 28. First, I had the timing belt too loose and it ripped the slack side guide off its bolts. We also ditched the carbs in favor of TWM throttle bodies with a Megasquirt E...

Re: Timing chain too loose
I was looking for thicker than .015" shims. you said that they mill the head up to .100", so I was wondering if they just stack the .015" shims to get to that height, or someone out there makes thicker shims.

Re: Timing chain too loose
where can you find these thicker shims? we have 6 .015" thick shims and it is a bear to line them all up and get the cam towers on.

Re: Timing chain too loose
we did that, and added some more cam spacers, and it seems better. the notch and the groove are only very slightly misaligned. the chain seems tighter now too, but now we have to get different lash pads to get the cam wipe pattern in the right place.still, does anybody know how much you can shim the ...

Re: Timing chain too loose
ill try that. hopefully that will eliminate the rattle, but the cam will still be slightly retarded. maybe ill just try it and see what happens.

Re: Timing chain too loose
If you have a new chain and tensioner with guides it should work. However if the head has been milled then this will introduce some chain slack. Cam tower shims should raise the cam sprocket and correct it. The tensioner should easily handle and slight slack. how many shims can you put on it? can y...
