Re: diesel swap, LD20 turbo - thoughts?
Hey your speaking my language! I've been slowly planning a wagon/diesel swap for a while now. Have you seen tedneugents post from May 2013? Look under Project Builds. This set-up in a wagon would great but like okayfine said, just finding one and sourcing parts might be a hassle plus I couldn't get ...

Re: Post a pic of your Dime.
Nice couple of 4-doors! Of course it's iffy judging color on a monitor screen, but I'm digging the paint on the blue 510. Is there any way to contact the young owner to find out the paint code? I've been looking for the right light blue for my '69 wagon. I also like the driver side rear view. Wonder...

Re: Swap options and MPG's.
Sleepy's-14- Man, I guess my looker was busted. I found your ecotec build. Unbelievable! If I were a farmer like you're a builder I'd be growing pumpkins the size of my house! Okay fine- The ca18 idea sounds interesting but have many people run these? If I go with a gas engine it would be to utilize...

Re: Swap options and MPG's.
Many reasons for focusing on the 510 wagon. 1) History-I had 3 510s back in the early '80's up in Alaska WAY before Craigslist and Ebay. They were SO hard to find back then! Still in H.S I'd stop by a parts store that actually had the 'How To Modify..." book on their rack of manuals and dream o...

Re: Swap options and MPG's.
Thanks for the replies. Sleepys-14 - Do you have any posts on your ecotec build? I looked, couldn't find. I'd really like to know more. Performance, cost, trans options, etc. Okay- As far as mileage accuracy and old speedos, one could get some help from Google Maps and be in the ball park right? Soun...

Re: Swap options and MPG's.
Yeah< I guess aerodynamics is the elephant in the room but it's hard for me to imagine that a 510 wagon and a 2003 Jetta wagon would be all that different. Especially if the dime's lowered a little with a spook and the speed's kept below 65 or so.
Any MPG numbers out there? Keep it real though.

Swap options and MPG's.
I've been digging around the Realm pretty extensively for a while now and haven't found much info on the mpgs folks are getting with their engine/tranny combos. I've been planning a '69 wagon/vw tdi conversion for a couple of years. A tdi mechanic friend of mine helped swap a tdi into an old Mk 2 Go...

Re: A 510 30 years in planing.
Aah yes, your discussion takes me back (that and looking in the mirror at my permanent 'S' brand). Many years ago my first run with my new jdm 1800 sss motor. So excited to feel how it'd pull and... WHAM! Tweaked it. It was also probably one of the last factory new hoods fresh out of the box still i...

Re: FutoFab Introduces Steel 510 Body Parts
This is fantastic news but I hope they end up being affordable. I remember getting a couple of nos front fenders for my '72 2 dr back in 1982 and the dealer said they were some of of the last available. It's about time. THANKS.

Your right.
I might even have a few stashed away somewhere. I believe they changed the name while I subscribed.
I'm looking forward to checking out those archives.

Re: Hi Everyone
Thanks for the reminder. I'm getting used to the forum thing and I'm a slow typist but it feels good to be part of this group. I think I was a subscriber to the 510 magazine back in the mid eighties.
P.S I like your "kale" quote.

Re: 510 Turbo Diesel
Hi Ted, I'm a long time 510 guy but new to the forum. I finally joined because of your diesel. I've got a 510 wagon and a 2003 Volkswagen tdi engine I've been conniving to put together with an Acme adapter plate and a Toyota 5-sp. Now I've seen your build. From the get-go I wanted to keep it all Dat...

Hi Everyone
Long time 510 owner, new to forum.
I bought my first 510 in 1980. Now I've got 2 wagons that I have plans for, but we'll see what time permits. It looks like you guys put out a lot of generous information which makes all of our projects more do-able. Thanks everyone.
