Re: Parameters A, B and H for setting up R160 R&P
I think I found the answer to my questions in the '82-'83 720 P/U Service Manual for the R180 front differential, pages PD18 and PD19, where It states that if no value for H is marked on the head of the pinion gear, or A and B values are not marked on the gear carrier, the values are taken to be zer...

Parameters A, B and H for setting up R160 R&P
I'm looking for the A, B and H values for setting up an R160 diff. The '73 510 Service Manual says the A and B values are marked on the Diff case (fig PD-24): https://i.imgur.com/c7vvSfZ.jpg MIne has no marking that I can find: https://i.imgur.com/Z4LMGOT.jpg Might that indicate A = B = 0? Likewise,...

Re: Installing a SpeedHut tach... where on earth do I plug the power lines in?
These LEDs were recommended to me by a trusted source for dash lights (no affiliation to the seller): https://www.amazon.com/YITAMOTOR-Bright-Instrument-Cluster-Dashboard/dp/B01JRXI9IU By the way, I believe you'll need to keep your ALT lamp incandescent as I've heard LEDs don't play well with the al...

It's too bad Speedhut doesn't offer a green night-time illumination option. At least I couldn't find it on their site...

Re: What 8 inch front springs do others use?
Is this for a Wagon? DIfferent ball game. I doubt your wagon has super stiff rear springs to match those 380 lb/in fronts since no one ever manufactured them that I know of. I'd just swap the front springs for some 200 lb/in Eibachs, add some Foamex or conical urethane bumps stops, and maybe raise t...

Re: What 8 inch front springs do others use?
380 lbs/in front spring rate seems quite high for a street car but there's a couple of trains of thought, here. Seems the Canadians prefer high spring rates and no rear anti-roll bar, while in the States we tend to run softer springs, a larger front bar and an adjustable rear bar. The key to making ...

Re: What 8 inch front springs do others use?
First make sure you're not riding on the bumpstops! No matter what spring rate you have, your effective spring rate will shoot up nonlinearly once you're into the bumpstops on compression. You can check this by wrapping a zip tie around the strut piston shaft, sliding it down against the top of the ...

Re: What do we actually know about Semi trailing arms???
I believe raising the semi-trailing arm pivots increases anti-squat. In defense of Kelvin, that car was built well before Miatas were recognized as the answer to every automotive question. Also, I'm pretty sure swapping in a Miata rear suspension would kicked him into the Modified class.

Re: Solex side drafts and mechanical or electric fuel pump
I've been running an AC Delco electric pump EP42S for years on my L20b dual 44phh setup without a pressure regulator. Very reliable (never had one fail, knock wood!) and totally quiet once the float bowls are filled at start up. I think the original app is for a gen 1 Camaro. Steve N.at Top End Perf...

Re: Favorite Roads
California 229 would definitely be in my top 3 favorite 510 roads. 1.5 lanes wide, no centerline, tight and twisty, and beautifully cambered. Here's a clip from a run in spring 2009:

Re: What did you do on your 510 today?
Swapped rear springs between my two 510s. My SR20DE car had Datsun Comp 510 rear springs, and Zeke, with an L-series, had Roadster Comp fronts cut 3/4 coil. The Roadster springs are stiffer, and would be a better match to the SR car's power, helping to reduce squat on acceleration, while the slightl...
