Re: The Red Baron
Installed the aluminum driveshaft a few ago. With this type of upgrade, it was primarily done for the reason that I needed a shortened driveshaft anyways for the 240SX transmission and the upgrade to the aluminum was only $100 extra. The larger diameter over a stock steel one and the lighter weight ...

Re: Road & Track: why stiff springs = less grip
This has been my experience as well. Tracked an E36 M3 with some well-known coilovers and any bump in the corners unsettled the car immediately. Went down to some progressive H&R springs that were only about 20% stiffer than stock and some well-matched Konis and the car performed beautifully at ...

Re: License Plate Attachment
All good options! Looks like either going for the stainless steel or plastic make the most sense. I'll decide and post up some pics for future reference.

Re: WTB Tail light harness NOS
Do you need the housing, chrome and lenses also? I have a supplier who does the entire kit with harness for $399 AUS. It's repop but very good quality.

License Plate Attachment
I'm not a big fan of how the previous owner bolted on the rear license plate using allen screws, etc and would like to see what everyone else is doing. Photobucket is clearly not working and it's likely that most of those pics will never be reposted. I'm using Imgur and it is still fine for forum po...

Re: CV Failure
So they are not from Les Collins but he confirmed with me that this company was THE ONE to get it from and I highly respect his recommendations. And yes - absolutely you are welcome to come check them out once I have installed them and at least given them a test drive or two. Don't want to recommend...

Re: CV Failure
So he did ask to confirm that the STI diff output with 27 splines and mentioned that they also did it using 25 splines axles. Is the stock R180 25 splines?

Re: CV Failure
Alright - have a contact in Australia who has been working with 1600/510s for 35 years and has designed a CV conversion kit using only Nissan products. Will work perfectly with a Subaru STI differential (27 splines). No custom adapters or billet stub axles or Porsche/EMPI CVs. He gets the parts from...

Re: CV Failure
I think broke hit the nail on the head! Appreciate his well-research reply. My experience into looking into OEM CV conversion is similar. If you drop in a heavy R200 LSD you have a number of choices namely Z31 Turbo axles, etc. Basic components that aren't too hard to find here in the states and don...

Re: CV Failure
I won't speak for everyone here but for me, there is a comfort level purchasing from the vendor who has researched all the necessary parts, purchased and assembled the components and will provide service support and a warranty. Otherwise, I am piecing something together, hoping there really isn't an...

Re: Alternative Modern Wiper Motor Conversions
Yes thank you both! I ordered a used motor off Ebay primarily to have the metal zinc-coated cover to have it match the original as well as possible. A new one was NLA according to my parts guy at Honda plus would have cost a bunch more. Will clean it up before winter and install using Tedman's wirin...

Re: CV Failure
I talked to Scott at Mad Dat and was tempted to purchase their kit. It's definitely very well made! Ultimately it came down to the fact that I will only be running 190hp-ish to the rear wheels and not racing the car much. The extra heat treatment and selection of metals in their kit would not be put...

Swapping mount studs to bolt on Differential
Have to drop my tranny here in the new few weeks and want to swap out the studs in the diff cover to bolts to make R&R easier. What bolts do I need to buy and would lock washers be suggested as well? Found these? https://www.belmetric.com/12mm-c-2_1046_1051/bfi12x30-small-wrench-ifi-109-p-5751.h...

Re: CV Failure
While getting a transmission noise checked out, the well-known shop also looked at the rear end to see if that had anything to do with noise. Doesn't look like it was BUT the owner with 30+ years of experience did comment that the Ermish CV axle kit had a ton of play. When he showed me the car up on...
