Re: Hello - Looking for some R160 info

I agree that a VLSD is a poor choice for motorsport. I hate the VLSD in my G35, too much lag when you jump on the throttle. IN motorsport, you NEED that instant feel of what the rear end is going to do.

Re: Modified Collector Insurance

As the vehicle has to go through an inspection...it would not work for me say. I have NO E-brake and no front bumper, that would blow me out of contention. While I could maybe mount some form of front bumper, the e-brake situation is a no go. Unless I get stopped in some way and am ordered for an in...

Re: Bike rides

Hike # 2 had us heading back up East Canyon Trail again, with the plan to cross at the new bridge and then head across another creek to head up the West side of Gold Creek. We were surprised to say the least that there was 2 feet of snow there, the small foot bridge had been washed out, making cross...

Re: "Hey" my daily driven race car!

Where is the clunk coming from? I had a bad shock bushing once, that you could not see, but, on a good bump it thumped.

Re: Is there aftermarket calipers that use metric fasteners?

Make sure whatever you get, that you have the ability to have a range of brake pads. At least for me, I ran as soft a compound as I could at the slaloms. You want that quick and lineal bite of a soft pad to snub the car speed down. Then I have a full on race type pad for track days/high speed events.

Re: Autocross Alignment Specs

Do not be afraid to use the brakes either. I found most new students did not really know how hard they could get on the brakes. Getting close to incipient lockup is a technique that can help steer the car also, that will be down the road. Make sure you take some shoe polish with you and mark your ti...

Re: Autocross Alignment Specs

NOT a criticism, just a comment.. You have to be more aggressive, which is part of learning to solo. I know you said the tires suck but, learn with those, you need to be ON that throttle way more, to the point it feels like the car is going to either slide or break loose. As I watch that, and the gu...

Re: Water flow through the L series heads

It was in talking to one of Don's crew members that I started to put in some of the gauges I have. Only way to know what was going on. They had so many sensors on that car. As I progressed to the hillclimbs I wanted to see what my actual discharge temperatures was going into the motor. Slaloms were ...

Re: Water flow through the L series heads

That was at Portland of course, we went down to watch the IMSA race. Andy and I were blown away as to how far over that motor was leaning.

Those things just EXPLODED down the straight with acceleration!!!!

Re: 2.3L of fun

One of the main things I did to my car in the winter of 1983 was lower the steering wheel and put a bigger one in. Then I modified my bucket seat so I could swing my elbows. Getting the leverage was so important but, a lot of guys did not understand that. They gave me a hard time for my "bus" wheel....

Re: Datsun 210 added to my collection

I loved those cars! BRASSO DATSUN used to have a weekend rental, program, 35.00 and unlimited mileage. I used to take those things all over the lower parts of this province, on some really BAD roads, virtually 4 x 4. I would give them a good wash when I got back. I even took one of these over the Hu...

Re: FS: 80s Subaru 3.7 R160 Clutch LSD

In my opinion, unless you have some really good torque and HP, 3:7 is really TALL, so any real acceleration is a no go. And/or, you just want a low RPM range for highway cruising. You need to decide what you really want from the car..performance, or a cruiser, either is fair enough, you just need to...
