Re: New dpracing offset camber plates
Very helpful replies, thanks everyone. I remember reading some of this before, but without having had a "need to know," it sort of went in one eyeball and out the other... Keith, you've obviously got plates that let you adjust the caster as well as the camber. That makes sense, give...

Re: New dpracing offset camber plates
What's the advantage to the offset? Maybe that sounds like a dumb question. What I mean is, it's pretty clear that the offset changes the caster compared to "straight-up" camber plates, but I'm not sure about the reason why you'd want to do so. From what I gather, going to 280ZX struts mak...

"Nicest wagon in Canada" (not mine!)
Ran across this story a few days ago but apparently it hasn't really made the rounds here yet. Great PR for Terry's beautiful wagon. http://www.dailyturismo.com/2014/08/10k-family-hauler-1972-datsun-510-wagon.html Apparently he got rear-ended though a couple of days after the Kijiji ad that's mentio...

Re: Little Orange Jellybean
Terrible news, Terry. You have such good bodywork skills I imagine you could tackle it yourself. Or will you actually entrust this job to somebody else?

Hey David, what's the colour code for that truck's blue paint? I like it!
Great looking truck, I'm sure you'll find a ready buyer.
Thanks;
Steve

I dropped an email to Jason inviting him to check out this thread; hopefully he'll get ahold of you directly, Mike. He had a lot of fun doing this and I'm guessing he'll be happy to tell you how he did it.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Q about aluminum drums
Byron and Trevor, thanks for confirming my sense of the problem, and the further sense that it's going to take a lot to get these suckers off. I forgot to say that these brakes do not appear to have adjusters. Or if there are any, they're certainly not the type I'm familiar with, at the top of the b...

Re: Q about aluminum drums
The plot thickens.... Went to PickNPull to, well, pick and pull the drums. Couldn't get them off. No tapped holes into which to thread bolts in order to extract the drums from the shoes, just two good-sized but untapped holes plus three very small ones. Probing all of those holes with a small punch ...

Q about aluminum drums
Hi all; I might have a chance to pick up some aluminum brake drums from a 280Z. Anybody know if they're the same size as the 240Z drums, which I know will indeed fit onto the stock 510 rear brakes? Their condition is of course the other factor I need to check out-- as a second consideration. Accordi...

Re: 280Z /ZX trannies-- 4 speed vs. 5 speed
Errrr, no I didn't. Not until seeing your note, that is. Bingo, that was the issue alright. A little spin of the shaft and-- magic!-- 5th gear appears out of nowhere! Thanks for your help, everyone. For someone as smart as I usually think I am, I really do make some dumb mistakes sometimes......

Re: 280Z /ZX trannies-- 4 speed vs. 5 speed
Thanks Mike, that helps a lot. But now the plot thickens. I picked up this tranny at PickNPull the other day, from a '77 280Z. PickNPull tranny Apr2014-1.JPG PickNPull tranny Apr2014-4.JPG PickNPull tranny Apr2014-3.JPG It had no shift knob or diagram. I ran it through the shift pattern and couldn't...

280Z /ZX trannies-- 4 speed vs. 5 speed
Hi guys; Anybody know what the external differences are between the base 280Z 4-speed (1977), which I gather was also the base tranny in the early 280ZX (1978 at least, I think)-- and the 5-speed that was available as an option in those years? Obviously the shift pattern has an extra throw... :) ......

Speaking of right-side stock mirrors... Anybody got one for sale? I gather they're pretty scarce, but reply here or drop me a PM if you do... Thanks!
