Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
I replaced the master cylinder on Sunday, bled the system, went back last night and bled it again for a long time and everything functions properly now. I took it for a drive this morning and it was still a bit sticky until the car warmed up, but I can get into every gear no problem now. The old mas...

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
I was just saying that I've bled it twice without getting air. I can bleed it again this weekend if y'all think it's going to make a difference... I double checked the measurements for pedal travel and play at the slave cylinder and both measurements are correct. I'll confirm that I'm not losing flu...

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
Hi technology, I know there has been no shortage of advice for you here. But I wanted to share a tip with you on bleeding hydraulic systems - brake or clutch. Press pedal down, then open bleeder. Close bleeder just as flow is stopping and then retract pedal. Any delay in closing the bleeder before ...

Sorry about not being specific enough, I'm still learning what's relevant information and what isn't.

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
I had been opening it, letting them pump the pedal a few times, closing it, checking that there was still fluid, repeat. Fill the reservoir and have some help keep it full and pump the clutch peddle for you. Open the bleeder on the slave. Usually fluid will begin to siphon down and out by itself alo...

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
I got all of the air out that normal bleeding will get out. Do you mean that there might be some trapped in the slave cylinder?

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
I just bled it and definitely got some bubbles, but I didn't gain much travel. I can get it into gear with less grinding now, sometimes with no grinding, but still clearly not how it should be. It's still barely breaking 3/4" of travel at the transmission.

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
Yeah...looks like I'm getting about 3/4" of travel at the transmission. So about half the travel that I should be getting.
So advice time: Replace the master or do master and slave just to be safe?

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
I just moved here, so I haven't fully converted to metric yet  There's plenty of fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. I'll make sure everything is tightened down when I get a chance. I figure bleeding it again won't hurt anything and could solve the problem. If it doesn't, I don't lose anyt...

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
How much should it move? Is there a good way to measure or estimate? Looking at the lever that the slave cylinder moves and the opening that allows for it to move, I would guess that it's not moving as far as it should.

Re: Can't get into gear without grinding
Oh, sorry, that wasn't very clear. It was bled when the slave cylinder was replaced. I meant I hadn't tried bleeding it again.

Can't get into gear without grinding
I recently replaced my clutch slave cylinder and everything has been fine until about a week ago when I suddenly can't get into gear without majorly grinding. If the engine is off, everything is fine. I can get into any gear. But once the engine is running I just grind any time I try to get in gear....

Re: what insurance do you guys use?
The ICBC website makes it sound like you can only get this if you have more than $5000 of equipment...

I'll have to dig through the receipts that came with the car to see what I have documented.

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question
280ZX = Hitachi Alternator Type LR160What's the advantage of this over the 280ZX alternator that I got? I haven't done anything with it yet, so I can always return it.

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question
Ok, I have everything I need other than the fusible link. I've read that you either want 2 or 4 sizes down from the wiring that you're protecting, so 12 or 14 gauge link for my 10 gauge wires. I also read that the length of the fusible link matters. How do I determine how much to use or does it actu...
