Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

Anything's higher than 35amp! You speak the truth. So now I'm looking around for places to purchase an internally regulated alternator. I found a new LR160-82 and a pair of used 280ZX alternators on ebay. Aaaaaaand the shipping doubles the total price. Any Vancouverites have a better source? Lordco...

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

I'll be going with a higher amp alternator either way, so I'll go with 10 gauge.

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

What is that fellows, #12 or #10 stranded? The white/red feed from the alternator. "Its best to rewire the lead to the battery using a fused ten gauge wire directly from the alternator to battery)." According to DQ, talking about swapping in a internally regulated unit: http://dimequarter...

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the article. I have a friend that has both a 3D printer and a love of making circuit boards, so maybe I'll see if he's feeling adventurous. See if there's a part number on it. If somewhere on it, it says LT, it's externally regulated like the stock 510, if LR it ha...

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

OK, so I'm sorting through the various issues with my new car and the alternator is fried. It's not charging? "Fried" is a descriptor that congers up images of smoke and fire, melting. Not charging does not necessarily mean it's fried. (though it could be internally) If it's a new alterna...

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

What is that fellows, #12 or #10 stranded? The white/red feed from the alternator. I'm not sure what you mean. Also, the big red wires are both supposed to be fed through the fusible link FYI, not split off separately unless they both have a link. Into the harness sounds dangerous to me! (when it c...

Re: Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

Where does that other too fat red cable go? the one that loops out of the picture? The other too fat cable goes into the wiring harness. It looks like it's connected up to a correctly sized wire that goes into the voltage regulator. Do you know off hand what gauge wire I should be using for these t...

Quick (hopefully) alternator wiring question

OK, so I'm sorting through the various issues with my new car and the alternator is fried. It looks relatively new as does the accessory belt, so I wanted to confirm that it was wired up properly before I put a new one in. Judging from the full color diagrams posted over at DQ, it looks like everyth...

Re: what insurance do you guys use?

Hagerty requires a daily driver that isn't the car you're insuring. I ride the bus to most places, which they explicitly don't recognize as a valid alternative. So much for going green?

Also, I failed aircare for CO2, which I guess means that I'm running rich.

Re: Just moved up to Vancouver, wanted to say hi

Hehe, now who's who?

Ideally I'll be wiring up the headlights, adjusting the rear drums and taking care of aircare this weekend and then I'll be aching to hit the road a bit if anyone is interested. Maybe next weekend if all goes well.

Re: what insurance do you guys use?

Man, that sucks Keith. I don't mind taking money for something that's replaceable, but when you've put so much time and effort into something the least they can do is let you pull your parts back off of it. I'll take the car by aircare and see what they say, I don't think anything is wrong with it, ...

Re: what insurance do you guys use?

When I bought it the insurance agent said I had to register it out of province because it didn't have aircare. It didn't need it on Vancouver island, but I guess I still need it in the city? Interesting article. A local mechanic was actually telling me to not get collision because the icbc likes to ...

what insurance do you guys use?

I finally got a 510 and have icbc liability coverage, but I want to get comprehensive and was wondering what company you guys use. Also, it doesn't have a catalytic converter right now, do I have a chance in hell of passing aircare or should I go ahead and order a cat. My gut feeling is that I'm goi...
