S14 with S15 block - SR20DET?

Post by Roc1479 »

Guys,

New to all this, but came across someone selling an S14 top with S15 bottom SR20DET. Doesn't have any harnesses or ecu.

He says it turns over, but doesn't know too much about it because he got it from someone else.

Should I consider it for my 72 510 swap? Would it be very expensive to get the harnesses and ecu, mounts, crossmember?

What are some things to look for?

Thanks,

Rocky

S14 and S15 top is the same besides the cams. You can't tell the difference from the outside. I avoid motors other people have tore into unless it's a smoking deal.

The SR is my favorite swap.

I'm getting the motor for 200, not sure if I should jump because the guy who has it doesn't know much about it and I don't either.

Seriously at $200 you can't go wrong. Even if you had to rebuild it you'd be well ahead. That being said, if you're looking for a cheep short cut to an SR swap and don't have the money to see it through, that might be the most expensive $200 you ever spent. Do some research here and you'll see doing an SR swap is not a cheep undertaking.

Wiring Specialties sells a new modified upper harness for the 510 for around $550, or take your chances modifying a used harness off ebay for $180. There are also used OEM S14 SR20DET QU ECUs for $200 on ebay.

Make sure it's not FWD. The price makes me think it is.

S14-15 engines didn't come in FWD form so he's pretty safe there. $200 yeah grab it rebuild it, go carbs!!!

Maybe they don’t come in fwd in North America but they do in New Zealand and Australia and without doubt also in Japan.
They are different than the rwd engine though and are more difficult to fit so find out first which it is. They are known as
“NEO” here. They are useable with some adapting.

Yes but were talking about a guy in NJ USA and highly unlikely it's a S14-15 FWD. Plus I'm sure he'd know enough to reconize the difference between fwd and rwd engines.

Well S14 and S15 are RWD chassis so no danger of a FWD there... if you have a FWD block it's probably out of a U14/15 Bluebird or a P10/11 Primera or similar....

If it's got Neo VVL on the rocker cover then it's gonna be a VE anyway. If you can get one of those for $200 then buy it!
The IDx 10 concept is based on the 510 in the same way that the urinating I was doing last night was based on a 30 yr old single-malt scotch.

My guess is it's US SR out of a sentra. The seller is just calling it a S14 block with S15 head or whatever because it resembles one.
