I just finished changing my fuel/temp gauge in my dash. The old one would wander from full to empty and cold to hot occasionally. Luckily I found another one in one of my parts boxes. One day I will figure out how to send pics lol.

Yep! I now think that the gauge was the culprit the whole time ha ha!

I had an interesting go-round with O2 sensors.

I thought the gauge that I ordered did NOT come with O2 sensor, so, I grabbed one from Specialty, that they had on the shelf, marked AEM.

I open the bottom of the new gauge box and lo and behold..an O2 sensor. So, I thought I would just open the Specialty one...just because.....it was DIFFERENT!

And, they are both different than the Bosch one I use in my Innovate.

This opened up the world of how many different O2 sensors, and plug styles, there are...of course WHY would anything be standardized.

So, I look up the AEM part number...that came with my gauge...NOTHING kicks up...what the hell. After spending 15 minutes in the InterWeb I find a thread that I think addresses the fact that AEM did a miss print in their instruction manual, of the P/N#. I decided to phone AEM and talked to a tech guy who then gave me..I'M HOPING...the correct Bosch cross over P/N#.

It seems my new gauge uses the latest (almost) UEGO LSU 4.9 sensor, as opposed to the older 4.2 sensor. Here is a nice article explaining things.

https://www.ecotrons.com/accurate_lambd ... 2_sensors/

We will see when my "backup" arrives, as I want a spare on my shelf.

The Subie rally guys did many tests with different fuels to see life span, mine, using my leaded Avgas/Octane booster, gives me a life span of 50 to 60 hours, so in real world for me, around three summers of driving.

I do hope it is maybe better, as I did have issues with my sensors with the Innovate.

IT LIVES!!! :D

Ran wires for AEM but did not hook up power or the new O2 sensor, will do that Thursday. Was not sure how much cranking, whatever, and did not want to maybe mess up new sensor.

Cam was dry as a bone since sitting from October, so drizzled a good bit of oil over it, rotated by hand and did some more. Pulled plugs and cranked motor till I just saw the oil pressure gauge wiggle. Virtually started right away so that was good! Ran it for 10 -15 minutes to 190 F..

I adjusted the clutch and the gas pedal, not done that in awhile.

Will install new O2 sensor, power I hooked up after I shut car off, so should be good to go. Air dam is in my basement so have to re-install that.

Let the season begin.

Note to all, that we have had STUFF off our cars, CHECK YOUR WHEEL TORQUE!

Today? Nothing yesterday 5/10/2020 Mothers Day, power washed the 510 removed front fenders, hood, trunk lid, bumpers, lights, front apron, key locks, door handles, BMW 320I side mirrors readying things for some touch up body work then color. Headlights and turn indicators will stay on and front-end covered before color, its a start.

The other day i swapped to later style trunk bows so I can get an evap collector box thing into the trunk. Today I was working on getting some rails together to swap in my new seats, had to order some new drill bits so thats on pause. Gonna see about fitting the rears later today.

Rolled the car out yesterday and went for a very nice drive! Could not have been a better day as temps were perfect.

All my noise abatement sure worked, wow, was car a lot “quieter” with the buzzes, rumbles and rattles gone. I wish I had some Hushmat or something like that to put under my back panel, as that would help with low rumble maybe from trunk area. If anyone has about 6 square feet left from a project I would gladly buy it from you.

The new AEM wide band fired up with no problem and is it ever more responsive than the Innovate ever was. I drove to Specialty yesterday to say hi and Andy told me about the Innovate they tried in Dave Humphries turbo 240, where they gave up and threw it in the garbage, as it kept dying like mine did.

I may make a small sunshade for it as the red LCD is washed a bit in bright sun.

I did initially head out to Langley to get some flannel at FABRIC Land, but, the frigg’in line up was crazy, what with this Covid BS and only so many allowed in the store. Shopping is a whole new ball game now.

I then looped back to 16th and then buried the throttle feeding onto highway 99 to both check that the wastegate was working and to see what the A/F was at full throttle, sustained boost. It was in the mid to high 11’s so that was all good. I did see the boost was only at 14 PSI and not 16, which got me to thinking that when I put the new wastegate in I had to crank the boost back, maybe overshooting to the negative, below 16 PSI.

Funny that the car seemed so much smoother without the rattles, etc., I’m sure it’s just my mind, but, it really did seem better.

Time for everybody to update your log book…you are keeping one…right!?

Ready for the season now!

I powdercoated the rear caliper bits for funsies. Once thats put back together I need to plug all my connectors back in and lower the car so I can work on getting it to idle right.

Some of your 510s and the work you guys do is amazing!

Today I stopped a huge gear lube leak and got the lady's 510 ambulatory again.

Edit: I see I got the diff mount nuts on the wrong studs. One last crawl.

Thought I would do one more shakedown drive before a good highway trip. It started out nice and I headed out to Cartel's shop to say hi, where on the way it lightly sprinkled. I had nice chat with Mike and got to look at a 1,500 HP GTR, insane to think of that on the street.

As I was leaving to head to Specialty the skies started to open up, just making it back to my garage before the car got really slimed.

All seemed good, so time to start planning a drive...get out on the OPEN ROAD!

Treated myself to something nice and new for the Datsun and finally found someone making some nice replacements.....

Will post up some pics soon and will put up a second set for sale as soon as I see my Visa bill.

Zipped over to Specialty yesterday to do a good clean on car. Not washed it since last Octobers drive. Waxed some major panels and really cleaned interior.

I made a little "sun shade" to fit over top of my AEM wideband, as the angle just catches the bright light and makes the red LED display a bit hard to read.

I want to pull out rear parcel shelf and give it a fresh coat of paint, sun has beaten on it for 47 years now.

I hope in July to get those headlights in my car if I can impose on Byron to give me a hand.

Beauty.

Where did you get your door mirror? Stock or aftermarket?

Thanks.
