Good read, and they do specify that you would have a max of 5% decrease in performance when running regular in a premium-recommended engine.

That little 5% can be noticed by some peeps. I noticed a dif. on that L16, it has more get up and go when running premium. Exhaust smells different..

OH! Here's something...
Should you run leaded or unleaded gasoline in a datto(L16) ? It has the old leaded gas filler cap, instead of the new unleaded-only cap.

octain = compression ratio. if your car needs 91 and u put 87 in it. of cuz u'd lost peformance but if the engine was design to run 87. putting race fuel wont increce power.

the pev owner of my car put only 94 and turned the carbs to very rich. not only it's pointless, that also sucks gas. more is not always better. since i dont know the compression ration of my car. im gonna run lower and lower octian , to the point it start pinging. than put a little better gas than what i need

Yes! It doesn't diesel near as much with surpreme in it, in my case.
That, and you don't have to slip the clutch near as much in my case.

Maybe it's a fluke, but it's a noticeable one in mah car. ;)

Try adjusting the timing.

Timing is at 0 even, if I remember right.
It pressure-gauged OK, but thats not to say the gauge was broken. It's got water inside, so it could be off a bit.

Will have to slap a light on it and make sure it's on, but I'm pretty sure it's where it needs to be.

it also looks stupid driving into a gas station and pump in 94 in a what apears to be a beater... hahah

"Timing is at 0 even, if I remember right."
..
Retard your timing to 6 degrees and you wont need to run premium.... 87 should be fine.

But in that case you may notice a decrease in power...
EDIT: Oh woops, I thought you said retard it 6 degrees, not TO 6 degrees.

The timing set a 0 at idle does seem a little excessive. What kind of combustion pressures are you running? You should be able to run at least 6 deg. initial timing with 30 to 38 deg. total timing.

combustion pressures? Hell I don't know, it's a stock L16

All I know was, the book we looked at called for 0 degree timing at idle speed, in this case being unknown because we don't have a tach...
