Making one is easy, no reason to spend money.
You can also do this...brace to the toe board NOTHING MOVES!

Re: Steering box brace
I put one on my project dime.
I also installed a stiffening plate on the fender well side where the steering box mounting bolts go.
One caution when installing, you need to drill the holes that go through the fender well before you install the engine. Otherwise, there is not enough room for a drill to get in there. This was the case with my VG33, you may have enough room with an L series.
I had to go and buy this to drill pilot holes. I then made the holes larger from the outside.

Have you already done the suspension and tires? If you're at the end of your modification cycle and are looking for the final piece to tie it all together, I suggest something like proflex's custom piece:rdanard wrote:Just wondering if anyone has bought or used the datsport steering box brace? or have done any other mods? Re: Steering box brace
I'm going to bring this one back from the dead. Few years on, what are peoples opinions, what's the best one to get (if you're not making your own) and are they worth it?
Assuming LHD and RHD ones are the same?
Thanks.

Re: Steering box brace
My box brace is still new enough to not have any opinion on it, but is the same principle of adding a top point of bracing against box rotation.
I will gladly send you one of mine if you cover shipping and accept my logo being on the brace.

Re: Steering box brace
Quite sure LHD/RHD braces differ. Datsport sells them as distinctly different pieces.

Re: Steering box brace
RHD braces are mirrors of the LHD pieces. All the offered braces do the same job in basically the same way. You'll have to go with Keith's wheel-well fix to further the effort.

Re: Steering box brace
they do the same job, but if Matt wants to send a brace for the coupe of Randy Wanger's, he'll have to send him a RHD version

Re: Steering box brace
The Sandwich plate for the steering box is slick.
Makes it even better for anti twist.

Re: Steering box brace
I want to make some of these from the 6061-T6 persuasion. I could even replicate what Keith did in a bolt up aluminum kit as well.

Re: Steering box brace
I have the ones Troy Ermish sells- very nice, and had Meridian auto in Calif. rebuild the steering box. Drives really nice now. Very stable at high speeds.
