Postby S15DET » 09 Apr 2015 04:46

Anybody remember seeing this Rambler at Knox Mtn.? Apparently it raced there in the 70's.

No, that hit there long before I did, which was 1982. I wonder if it was the test bed for what became/was used by the Vancouver City police for awhile, as their car of choice?

This picture was a good friend of mine at the time, on our way to Knox for our first run ever. His 510 did not come back from Knox in one piece!

That was his x-Vancouver police car he used as a tow vehicle.

That Rambler is sure nice.

The picture at Knox is in the parking/cool down zone at the top of Knox Mountain. Stuff sure has grown up since that photo was taken.

I like the black S.E. stripe.

Do they (Specialty)have any smallish decals that say Specialty Engineering, New Westminster, BC? I would put one on my car, just because they have been such a big partner to the 510 community, and because of your positive association with them. Although I'd probably have to regularly answer what BC stood for.

Also, New Westminster reminds me of the East Westchester Northstars, champions of the Southern district.

I will send you some, PM me your address.

That was the first permutation of my car, when we built it in 1978/79. I then had my big OOPS' at Westwood in 1983, so that is when it got flared.

Those letters were hand painted by the same fellow that painted the "Turbo Turtle"

I got you a couple of the original ones, with the New Westminster address, a new one that one of the fellows did, and another small one that does not have the Turbo Turtle on it.

Plus a couple of "bonus" things.....

Here is a picture of how I cut out the one decal, which you can compare when you get it, with the turbo turtle, then when Specialty moved, I just cut off the old address at the bottom.

Back in 1991 a Rambler American showed up at the Mount Washington Hillclimb driven by Sidney Dickson. This car was driven from London to Sydney in '68. Here is a picture of the car from that rally.
