Avoid. Or do massive research, and then possibly avoid anyway. Without any details, we cannot give any advice beyond that. No-title info in CA is unchanged, but it depends on your particular circumstances.

I haven't looked into this process locally in years. Possession is still 9/10ths of the law, but in BC we need a title search and three registered attempts to contact the titled owner over 4-6 weeks at their last known address. Documentation of these legal attempts to contact the owner are then turned over to the Motor Vehicle Branch (equivalent to the DMV) and an application is submitted to have the vehicle transferred to your name. This goes to a board for review. So the process can take a few months. After transfer I believe the vehicle may need a government inspection, which are pretty strict. But for the right car it is worth the effort.

yea I'm definitely not going to buy without a title. supposedly the guy's brother has it. still going to look and see if its worth the hassle and was intrigued to see where this post went (didn't want/mean to hijack this topic or anything!). thanks for the thoughts and advice!
