Troy Ermish Racing at Portland

Post by oldtransamdriver »

Last weekend I attended the Portland Vintage Race festival and got to meet Troy Ermish. He had
4 of his Datsun 510 vintage racers there. They are truly state of the art and stunning to look at
and see on the track.

Their lap times equalled the 12 HTA 305 T/A cars that came up from CA.

I asked Troy "how much to build one of those 510 racers"? "About 75K U.S." Of course they
come with full-race Rebello engines - about 180 hp at the wheels he said. Ouch!

Check out his website.

Troy is one of FutoFab's reproduction steel dealers so we are in contact quite often.

From Portland he headed to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI for The Hawk vintage race. He qualified on pole of the 35 car B/Sedan -2.5 Challenge feature race and went on to win with Taz Harvey 2nd and Ike Keeler 3rd, all in 510's.

Here is a pic of Troy in the tech shed with his car and 1st place trophy.

I've gotten a text from him since then.

He is at Watkins Glen in NY this weekend vintage racing.

I was at Road America for the Hawk qualifying, but unfortunately could not be there for the Race on Sunday. His car(s) dominated the event.

It was fantastic to see about 10-12 510s on the track at the same time (don't see that often here in the midwest) for the B-sedan race. And that was with at least two more I know of that were down for the count by that time.

If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?
