Cam Identification

Post by obrut »

I have a cam for L series that has 420 00 on the back, no oil holes in the lobes and has a red stripe on it. It does have the two large squares like a L20B cam but the profile of the lobes looks way different then a stock cam.

Anyone know the manufacturer? or how can I find the specs for this cam? thanks

Pictures are helpful but it sounds like it a grind from a billet cam core, not a regrind.

Can anyone ID this came? I just got a 240Z head intake exhaust setup and it came with the factory spray bar. I read the dime quarterly article on how to shorten the spray bar to use on the 4 cylinder but I would like to know if this is something good for the street in a L16 or L20B.

Fwiw I've seen the old 240z spraybars get loose with age. The front tube fell out of a bar on a friend's z. Got caught up in the chain skipped a tooth and bent a valve. Quite an expensive ordeal. I looked at 2 I had and both would wiggle. Not sure how the tubes were originally held in place. Just food for thought.

thats good to know, maybe the ends need to be brazed just like the DQ article says to do to the middle after shortening it. I was looking at the external spray bar too but didn't know it cost $145.

one other comment on spray bar.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK SPRAY PATTERN!!!!! Just humour yourself that the spray is going to hit the cam shaft lobes. We have seen where the holes may NOT have been de-burred properly and the spray goes at an angle and misses a good chunk of the lobe. Only takes a few minutes in a solvent tank or even water.

Even though this has been in service, you never know it may have been marginal.

I lost a cam many years ago with a BRAND NEW spray bar, cam was gone in the span of 60 miles.
