Being Perma Banned

Post by datzenmike » 29 May 2019 17:33

Who else besides me and INDY were perma banned this weekend??? Was it my suggestion that those stock struts be scrapped?

See the missed message thread below, a ton of us were " banned", I was in withdrawl by noon time yesterday.

Spencer and or Rob have fixed it for us!

I had to assume it was a glitch. No one would ban me. I play nice. But without the realm to get my 510 fix I was i was in trouble guick. Thought I might have to go over to ratsun. Thank god for the bluebird list to hold me over.

I too was permanently banned. Checked ratsun to see if anyone had commented on the ban and nothing. Checked the site from other computers and they too said I was perma banned even when I wasn't logged in so I knew it had to be site wide.

Site users;

The site problem occurred on Tuesday morning about 07:45, while I was doing the daily task of clearing spam from the site. As one of the 4 mods, we work at this to keep the site clean for everyone else, luckily you don’t get to all see what we have to sort through, but every new handle or IP address needs to be ok’d by a moderator personally before the rest of you will see the post. It’s the only way we can block the continuous and unrelenting spam bots that pile it on this site every day.
At any rate, while clearing and blocking a specific IP address, I’ve been informed the server blocked a whole range of IP addresses - effecting everyone including the moderators. Our site admin had to go back in through the server to clear the blocked log from what I understand. And this took some time.

At any rate, certainly this was inadvertent and all of us moderators work hard at keeping the site clean and free of spammers on a daily basis.

I find it interesting that there were some who actually thought that they’d been legitimately banned! That’s funny because this is an awesome group of people from all over the world with a love and keen interest in what we do as a hobby. There’s no way we would ban anyone unless there was some extreme disrespect or attack made towards another member. And it’s been some time since we’ve had to step in on such an offence.

Anyways, happy Realming and I’m glad the issue was resolved. The one thing that made me laugh is how much a number of you really enjoy this site. For those that know me personally, I was getting text messages and phone calls within minutes of the issue starting, and it was a constant stream from there right up until the issues was resolved some 36 hours later. And then I was getting acknowledgments that we were back on! Thank you for your contact. I’d received so many that I never had a chance to reply to them all, but rest assured I did read them.

Take care all, and on behalf of the site admin and moderators - welcome back.

Byron

I bolted out of bed this morning, foregoing my usual routine of..local news...CBC news and the latest photo op of Justin Trudeau, then CNN and the latest in the Trump Show..thundering to my computer to make sure I was ON. It took a few seconds to wake my computer up from it's dream of light speed chips and 10 terabyte hard drives..

I was ON..whew....

I got a call also from someone wondering what was up and I was one of the ones onto Rob and Byron in a blink..as my hands started to shake, wondering was it my Hummingbird pictures that got me banned.

Very funny how we all had our take on what happened, and, our reliance on this site for our daily fix of the 510 World. I do not have a "smart" phone, so my main way to contact people for our drives, etc, is through this site. That's my excuse at any rate!

Thanks to Rob, Byron and of course our creator, Spencer ( who is now back in Vancouver) for getting this fixed.

Today I'm just going to make 5 gallons of coffee, sit in front of this screen and re-read the whole site........

My wife says I'm a sad case......

Count me in as one of the many who genuinely appreciate all the work you moderators and admin folks do to keep this site up and running. I too was banned and all I could figure was either there was a site wide problem or someone had hacked my account and used it to spam the site. Even though I don't post too often, I do come to the realm a few times a day to keep on top of all the happenings and to make mental notes of the great information shared here that I may need to call on in the future. Needless to say I too was feeling the withdrawal symptoms.

This forum and the folks in it are great.... the way I see it is there's a lot of Realm in all of my 510 projects and thanks to all for that.
