CANT FIND BRAKES

Post by Darrencampagne »

Hey everyone.

I have a 71 4dr 510 and I am having really tough time finding brakes. Can someone point me in the right direction or let me know if there is an upgrade kit available 🤔. I am in Canada so if I don't have to go across the border that would be ideal.

Thanks

Darren

Rear brakes can be found on rockauto. Not in Canada but there prices are right and the delivery is easy and no hidden costs. I use them all the time. Fronts are an issue. No stock rotors and rebuilt calipers. There are a few upgrade but I have no experience with them. Everything will come from out of Canada.

Great thank you! I did manage to find some front pads locally but no luck on rotors or calipers.

You can still get parts to rebuild stock calipers. The pistons and o rings are on rockauto. But without rotors your dead in the water. I have a local shop that will turn a rotor very lightly and usually can find an old one that's good enough for a daily driver. If your auto crossing or canyon carving you should upgrade. 280zx stuff is getting harder to source. So if you find zx struts plan ahead and get an extra pair of rotors and a caliper rebuild kit. The zx rebuilt calipers on rockauto are sporadic.

610, 710, B-210, S10 and A10 seem to use the same rotor

610 had same caliper through '74. 710 through '75. My '74 710 had the same wedge brake pads as the 510.

Great thanks so much! My wife works at a machine shop so turning the rotors Not that hard. But would like a spare set.

Thinking about a full brake upgrade as I have 370z engine in it and stock brakes no sufficient

Yikes, can't believe that still has stock brakes. Upgrade for sure. I googled 510 brake upgrades and specialty engineering in Ladner came up. Andy is a great guy and knows his stuff. He's not cheap but a decent kit is going.to cost no matter what. Give them a call.

depending on your wheel size i have some on the shelf-- i would think that there "should" be some sort of upgraded strut already in that..from the look of the top rubber hat shown.. why it doesnt have camber plates is beyond me tho

Ive seen the car and I would want to raise it a bit as well. I got down and looked at the front. That sump is close to the ground. Are you on the island. I can't remember where it went. I'm in Qualicum and there are a few 510 around here. I love to have a closer look at what you have. It seems like a pretty impressive amount of work was done.
