Another 1973 # . I found this Vin "Under" the vin on my Rally car ??? I guess it’s not the car I thought it was. The previous Owner did a little paperwork doctoring.
Please Correct me if I am Wrong but 410.... is 1973 correct ??

Andrew - hard to say, does it have the correct back lit switches and center gauge panel?
According to this site, PL510's started at 423000.

http://www.datsunhistory.com/datsunbynumbers.html

Which makes mi 73 one of the earlier examples of a 73 car. If this is right, then 410XXX would be 1972.

But figures are hard to get - what does your car have?

Dragging this one up from the trenches at the request of bertvorgon, my 73' has a serial number of 430694. I'll get a picture of the data plate this weekend.

bertvorgon wrote:After reading the Japanese Nostalgic article, it makes me think that in Canada, we might have been the only ones that got a true, made in 1973 car. As Vancouver was a port of entry, for major distribution, we got the last of the production run?! Who knows.

Next winter, I would like to compile an updated list, if we could get everyone to post up their serial numbers. With this we might be able to get a sense of distribution. I get that lots of cars have been displaced from their original sale point but at least we can see where most numbers are now for posterity.

I'm going to bookmark this thread, thanks for kicking it up again Byron, and will revisit in the fall when I have more time.

Feel free to post up as we go though, get a jump on it.

I do know I am second owner on my car, from a registered Vancouver woman, so I know it did start here. It had very low miles on it when I got it in 1978 and even now, it only has 93,769 MILES on it.

To be continued.....

Taking this out of Davids build thread and into it's own related topic...

I updated the info from Davids project in the first port in this thread. Certainly David's car is up there in production numbers, as all of the MY 73 cars were.
Keith, the US definitely got the '73 MY cars, as only a few in this list are Canadian. However the top two - yours and Chris's cars are the only ones actually made in 1973. Who knows, it is possible that the last load of Datsun 2dr was unloaded here at Annaciss Island fro distribution in Canada, with the US getting the Newest, Latest Greatest 610 and 710 models that replaced the 510. There certainly were a lot more 610/710 coupes and sedans stateside than we seemed to have seen here in Canada. This being said, I do knwo that both the 610's and 710's were in Canada with the early, non high impact massive bumpers. However there were few, if any changes made to the 510 that I'm aware of between all of the '73 MY cars. My car is the oldest on this list as a MY '73, but i am sure there must be more of them out there.

Those differences incorporated into the MY '73 cars were;

All MY '73 cars were 2 dr's
Back lit heater controls
Fiber Optic lit headlight/Wiper knobs
Large Rubber blocks on the front and rear bumpers
Front bumper was heavier/reinforced with different gauge bumper mounts
DR's/Pass side door side impact beams/reinforcement

To be confirmed, by my observation only;
There were a few optional colors like the lime green which were '73 only - mine was this colour
I also believe that all '73 MY cars had either white or black interiors only - no brown, red or tan interior colours

As Kieth mentioned, lets keep this thread going. If there are more cars out there that need ot be on this list, it would be great to have it compiled. It's been a while since this thread was bumped.

Hey no problem.

Image

Still looks pretty good after all these years, still has original paint, but there is some dings/scratches ( did some stupid stuff when I was young), but no rust. Helps to be in Nevada all its time.
A little story, I had purchased a new PL620 truck in June of 1973 after graduation from high school. I also had my eye on the 510's, but decided to purchase the truck instead. Around the end of 1973, the sales man from the Datsun dealer called me and said that the new 610 was coming out and that if I wanted a 510 I better get one because they were going to discontinue them. So before college I had two Datsun's, which I have had since new, a long time in this game.

That's really cool, 111 cars behind mine, I bet we both rolled off the assembly line in the same day.

This coming May will be the 60th anniversary of the KNOX MOUNTAIN HILL CLIMB in Kelowna. It would be neat if you drove down and met us there for the day, as a bunch of us hope to be there with our 510's, as some of us used to run that hillclimb. Only an hour and a half for you.

Also a car show in Penticton in June that I am trying to plan for also.

Yup - that is really cool - likely did role off the line close to yours.

I'll do my best to be at Knox Hill... I was there a few years back with one of my other (previous) 510s. Penticton would be an easy one too!
