World cars had Oh Shit handles in the rear. The mounting points are in NA cars as well.

So what make that a SSS, a steering wheel and emblems? It's a 70's model with a `68 rear bumper and lic lamp, 69 front fenders, stock suspension with maybe Safari Rally springs and `68 style no 1/4 panel rear round running lights or rather rectangular to match the year of the car. $22k SSS I think not.

Does anyone know how that SSS air filter box can fit with a LHD master cylinder? I've never seen one fit without cutting into the air-box.

Ive done it twice. My flat top air cleaner has a dimple where the nipple boss is. The early round top does not. So both used masters with the nipples outboard. A rare find around here. Maybe more common in rhd countries. The front unused nipple boss inboard had to be ground off on the round top. Both were very tight and the master has to be loosened on the firewall and front resivor had to be drained and removed to get the cover off.

Sorry to hijack this thread. Nice car and the rear seats look awesome. Just a pic of the round top setup. It was very tight and upon removal there was a small rub mark on the cover.

I've seen one I stalation that placed a slight wedge shapes aluminum spacer at the firewall to gain a little more clearance as well. Just passing this along as it may help.

It's a LHD SSS car. Datsun made them, for EDM, mainly. Not in enough numbers to make a LHD-specific SSS dash, but it otherwise would have had the engine (carbs, head, dizzy) as well.

As for the rest of your assumptions about the exterior, you're exhibiting Amerocentrism. What you see on that car is standard issue for world cars for 69-73 (basically every market except NA).

I had the good fortune to be in Richmond, Virginia last week and was able to take a look at this car in person-- it is very nice. As noted, a LHD SSS version that someone has modified to rally spec. The SSS spec on this car is a 109hp engine (data plate rating), and the normal SSS badges, I did not crawl under the rear to see if it had the modified rear control arm shock mounts as found on the SSS Coupe's. The interior in the car was different than the Japanese spec SSS cars (door panel embossing) and the front and rear seats were trimmed much different than what we normally see on USDM or Japanese spec cars-- the closest thing I have seen that looks like that is the South African cars.

Certainly a rare, and interesting variation of the 510 series!

Michael,
Thanks for the report ! How would you describe the condition of the repaint ? Any dings/ dents ? The interior looks interesting. For some reason, I can't get excited about this one.
Perhaps if it were RHD and/or a 2 door, it would generate more interest. What would you estimate that it could reasonably fetch ?

The repaint was decent, not amazing, but if this car is going to live its live on gravel, it would be fine. Considering its age, it is clean car, but it has the normal wear an tear for a 45+ year old car.

Being a LHD true SSS car is pretty remarkable-- the only one I have ever seen. Someone will get something special... As for what it is worth, it is very hard to say...

My next set of tires I think I will go for that look, though a bit lower in the front. Dirt roads are the norm around here and having the front sumped FJ20 2 1/2" off the ground is an accident waiting to happen.
