I am still looking for a shift lever from an early model 720 pickup.

I believe I could drill a new fulcrum point hole in the existing shift rod striker and then use the shift lever from a 720 pickup. But my searching has turned up nothing on an early or late 720 shift lever.

Please help if you have a 720 shift lever or know of one that can be had.

Ok, I think I may have found a solution to the "short shifter" issue.
Kinda pricy, but worth a try.

For the 80-83 280ZX transmission with the tall rounded ears on the striker guide, no adapter provided, so you will need to drill new fulcrum pin holes.

That shifter kit is horrible to use. I tried it and went back to stock pretty quickly. I shortened my stock shifter by an inch and it feels great now.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

I have a few types of 71b shifters that Im hesitant to sell separate from the transmission: kick back dual position chrome, single position kick back chrome and dual position bent back rubber isolated black. 90ca +shipping(~17ca)

If I may ask, what about the shifter did you not like?
Was it the extra effort needed to select gears?
Did it not feel like it was engaging the gears completely? Especially reverse?
These are expected because of the mechanical advantage lost with the relocation of the fulcrum point. And if it felt like it wasn't engaging the gears completely, it could be the lower portion of the shift lever is hitting the inside of the striker. There may be the need to remove some material inside the striker to allow the lower portion of the shift lever to fully move the striker rod the necessary amount to allow full gear engagement.

When shifting 2 to 3 or 4 to 5 because of the short throw and increased effort it would end up 1 or 3. The same was true for downshifting. 5 to 4 you end up hitting reverse often and 3 to 2 it ends up hitting 4 often. If you are driving hard it only exasperated the problem because you are trying to move the lever faster.

Thanks, I will watch for that. Hopefully I won't have that issue, but I won't know until I try it.
