SOLD - 80s Subaru 3.7 R160 Clutch LSD

Post by DADZSUN » 18 Feb 2018 06:26

Selling my R160 CLSD. Asking $800 on Kijiji, $750 plus shipping for the good folks on the Realm. Can deliver within the GTA/Ottawa corridor for no charge.

Not sure what it's worth but appears to be getting rare... I seem to recall paying my asking price ~5 years ago and that doesn't include the hundreds I've invested in getting it serviced.

The bearings/fluid/seals were serviced by B&N Transmission just last year. Works great but does have a slight whine.

I'll be keeping the axle stubs and input flange (circled), simply swap your OEM diff parts over for 100% bolt-in.

FYI Subie R180s go for the price your asking. The R160 goes for a lot less now days. Good luck with the sale.

R180 CLSD's are going for $1000-$1200 CAD from what I have found around here. That is if you can find them. For the R160 I think you have the right price. If you can find R180 CLSD for that price you should buy it.

If you shop around you'll find a Subie STI R180s for that price but the 27 spline axle stub conversion is another ~ $500+ Cdn. I know b/c that's the route I'm taking for the larger 3.5 gearing and extra Tq capacity when using R compounds.

I figured this R160 is priced around 1/2 the total cost of an STI swap, also some may want to stick to a smaller more OEM sized setup.

For the axle stubs you can look at silverline motors. They are what I got.

Yup but not a CLSD. I can get an open R180 for $200.

The Sti R180 has Torsen which has instant lock compared to clutch type. For $200 to $300 it's a bargain. I used to leave some pretty gnarly rubber marks with my 2013 Sti diff in my 510. Locked every time no problem.

STI R180 Torsen for $200-$300 where? am I dreaming? I've never seen a 2013 Torsen STI R180 LSD for that price, so please do tell as I'd grab 2.

While these comments are not exactly productive to the objective of this thread, in the interest of sharing accurate information for potential future buyers I will say that my STI R180 Torsen diff was close to $500 USD - and that was without shipping (I have to pick it up) and after shopping for quite some time. Conversion axle stubs cost another $450-600USD after shipping & taxes into Canada.

As previously stated, I'm pricing my R160 to approximately 1/2 of a realistic STI conversion (there is some wiggle room in my asking price). Also, my diff has been recently serviced whereas used STI diffs are a potential unknown.

For informational purposes 27 spline stub axles can be had for $300 from John Williams he's the first guy to make them. I got mine from him on FB. These worked great for my 2014 STI Torsen Diff. Good luck with the sale. Im sure it will sell pretty quick cause who doesn't want a LSD in there 510.

What's not so productive about Toylets comments? He does say the STI R180 is insant lock which is good to know. Then he goes on to say for $200 $300 it's a bargan then finishes off with Locked everytime no problem. Seem like productive comments to me yes, no?

Normally I wouldn't care what comments are posted in an open topic thread. When it's a classified thread that I opened, and comments are close to undermining the item I have for sale... I think I'm quite justified to post what I did.

I think your asking price of close to $900 with shipping for what looks to be a clapped out r160 is undermining your sell. I also gave you GOOD examples as to why you will NEVER get that kind of money from the datsun community for it. I sold 2 of them last year for $500 shipped and I felt VERY lucky to get that.

Toylet your price of $500usd in Arizona may have been good but in Ottowa these things are not easy to come by. $750 CAD is a reasonable price for what he has and where he is. I would not sell one for that little. There is no need to keep saying he is asking too much. We get it. You think it is too much. Some of us don't think it is.
